Had a job lined up before i even sat the mocks, careers advice woman was speechless when i gave her a bit of paper with estimated pay and all the job info....

No.
Sad thing is as said need Maths and English before you can be free.
I'd do the best possible but for future life they are irrelevant. Most employers worth their salt value common sense and aptitude. Oh and of course hard work.

Depends on the individual, seen some supposedly thick people do quite well and some clever people that seem to expect everything to come to them and end up doing sweet fa with their lives.

Reminds me of the front row of our class, all the intelligent ones, the ones who did everything they were supposed to, and more at times, had 100% attendance, played sports after school and represented it elsewhere

then ended up on the checkouts at tesco....

The back row, me, a few others, didnt really pay much attention, mucked about, had days off when we felt like it, played the teacher up merry hell and caused chaos where ever we went

at least 5 of us now run our own businesses....

If you want to sit on a tractor for the rest of your life then no.
If you want to rise up the ladder a bit, head tractor driver , foreman , assistant manager , manager, then yes
If you look at the difference in both technology and output between the first tractor I worked (grey and no cab) which was one of 3, all fairly new and still in production at the time and the average new tractor now and compare the level of education and technical understanding needed to make the best of them, I think a bit more than basic GCSE education will be required to operate a tractor, or whatever replaces it, through the next 50 years.

of those 5 businesses you relate to....how many were "self made" as opposed to being built on the back of exg family enterprise and funding?

Does that matter.....still need initiative to make them succeed, even if they are built on existing busineses! They dont run themselves

Would like to think if you got a set of top GCSE grades you would aspire to a bit more than sitting on a seat talking to old biddys every day

but seems thats often not the case

Cant say as im a fan of "self made" people either....think Alan Sugar, Donald Trump, etc etc....not exactly shining examples

Lets face it GCSEs are not that difficult today if you pay some attention to the lessons (or even just buy a study cheat guide), so yes I would say not having Cs at GCSE shows you paid no attention during school, and you will have a much harder time getting a decent job as everyone will assume you are a thick (even if you are not).

You're half way there if you turn up. saying that qualifications are vital .
