Depends on the individual, seen some supposedly thick people do quite well and some clever people that seem to expect everything to come to them and end up doing sweet fa with their lives.
If you look at the difference in both technology and output between the first tractor I worked (grey and no cab) which was one of 3, all fairly new and still in production at the time and the average new tractor now and compare the level of education and technical understanding needed to make the best of them, I think a bit more than basic GCSE education will be required to operate a tractor, or whatever replaces it, through the next 50 years. If you want to sit on a tractor for the rest of your life then no.
If you want to rise up the ladder a bit, head tractor driver , foreman , assistant manager , manager, then yes
The back row, me, a few others, didnt really pay much attention, mucked about, had days off when we felt like it, played the teacher up merry hell and caused chaos where ever we went
at least 5 of us now run our own businesses....
of those 5 businesses you relate to....how many were "self made" as opposed to being built on the back of exg family enterprise and funding?
This is excellent advise.Yes,
An ability to learn is essential.
Lets face it GCSEs are not that difficult today if you pay some attention to the lessons (or even just buy a study cheat guide), so yes I would say not having Cs at GCSE shows you paid no attention during school, and you will have a much harder time getting a decent job as everyone will assume you are a thick (even if you are not).
100% agree that ability to learn is essential.Yes,

100% agree that ability to learn is essential.
But GCSEs are neither here nor there
The right attitude is far far far more useful
