Are germinators ever used on winter cereals

As usual baling the last straw whilst everyone else locally drilling.

4 combi units working within half a mile, got a lot done though.

Are those germinator things that beet growers use on light land ever used for cereals. They look fast & sturdy & might suit some of the local light but stony land.

Whats the downside they look fast & efficent, maybe good on frost moulded heavy loam too. Not working it to death like a power harrow.

never used one so don't know...only thing i heard was wide ones not great on uneven ground

We use one on sandy loam,straight on rolled ploughing and then drill with an Accord air drill.

Our lely rottera with flexicoil doesn't work soil to death . Those older type tines on it are better in that respect as well.
Trouble is a lot of these implements get developed to far . Over the top. These days There Seems To be a lack of intelligence used in design I often think.

We use one on sandy loam,straight on rolled ploughing and then drill with an Accord air drill.View attachment 909212

Looks a quick & easy way to produce a lot of seedbeds fast.

8-10 acres an hour if you have the right soil with a 5 metre.

Yes I prefer the old combination harrow for cereals or even better just plough and furrow press and use a drill mate on the front of the drill. 2 passes

They maybe ,fast , but not sturdy , weak as pee , do a good job on light land ,show them a bit of heavier going ,you will be picking rotor crats and tines up , ,get a press for plough ,and front press and duals on drill tractor ,,light land wants as little as possible doing to it

We use a mounted kkk germinator for everything that needs it.

Plough and press and anything that wont go straight on the press is left to haze for a day or three then lap over it with the germinator on 100hp tractor dualed up and drill behind.

5m will cover a lot of ground and quickly. I watched my nieghbour yesterday who's on the same land and he had a 4m lely rotera and drill combi working straight onto ploughed land. He did 23 acres all day I've got 50 acres the other side of the hedge and we can drill that with one person harrowinging and another following with 6m drill in a good afternoon.

He might have only one person....
Get on better with a drill mate rather than a power harrow though.....
