Are Red back boots worth the money?

I’ve had good wear out of two pairs, but I don’t like the fact you have no ankle support having nearly twisted it a few times. My next pair are going to be laced for that reason only. Red backs are very convenient to slip on and off and are comfortable to wear all day.

They are comfy and easy to slip on
But offer zero ankle protection…the amount of times I’ve rolled my ankle wearing them it’s a wonder I don’t walk like I have laminitis
This is interesting… I love my redbacks- so comfy, but I’ve fallen over twice in them, after rolling my ankle. I am pretty clumsy but the fact I fell over twice in 2 days was slightly disconcerting !

They don't last like they did 10yrs ago.
And since the people who like taking £100 pair off you in UK have got Redbacks to stop Everything Australian shipping them here for £63, they can stuff them.

soles do appear to have changed over the years, now on my 4th pair since 2005 (arable only no cow sh1t) most comfortable but i am not prone to twisted ankles so dont miss the ankle support.
I have other boots but they are not as comfortable so dont get much wear.

Yes and no. The uppers last well if you take some care to clean them and apply some polish every now and again.

Two issues I've found with recent pairs though. It seems that their size has shrunk significantly. It used to be that size 12 was reliably size 12 etc. Nowadays they are far too tight in that size, yet other shoes and boots still fit perfectly.

Secondly, their soles seem to now burst out of the side prematurely. They have a kind of air-cushioned sole and the plastic seems to degrade resulting in bursts and lack of support and balance at the heal. Indeed in walking with a twist and with weak ankle support. They were never the best for ankle support of course because, with use, the elastic weakens and the top gets quite loose, but very comfortable.

As a result I've concluded that the approximately £100 price per pair is no longer worth it and I've gone to a £45 pair of DeWalt safety lace-up boots from Screwfix. Even if they only last half as long they will work out cheaper than the Redbacks. The downside is having to lace them up and risking laces coming undone periodically. Oh and the yellow colour, which is improved by waste oil. ;)

I find the soles go quite quickly and start to hurt my feet

I'm going to get a pair of trainers for the summer next year. Just a bit lighter.
Probably wrongly but I wear trainers a lot unless actually doing maintinence/heavy lifting type work where steel toe caps are important.
Otherwise it’s essentially walking about with two bricks strapped onto your feet!
