Are the General public completely oblivious to the dangers of large farm machinery?

1, your assuming the header trailer is un-braked, I’ve seen plenty with overrun braking systems.
2, your assuming he was driving with the hazard lights on, I read it as he was stationery blocking the road (or at least trying to).
3, you are correct that it isn’t legal to use a vehicle that is towing something as an escort. However you can use an unladen tractor as an escort.
Spot on

It never ceases to amaze me how many people walk down lanes with their back to oncoming traffic, often with headphones in 🙄
Completely agree, see it all the time, one of the things they taught us when we first started school was if there is no footpath such as in country lanes etc always walk facing oncoming traffic, i doubt they even consider teaching that in town schools these days as a lot of the teachers are thick so most of the kids don’t stand a chance!!!,

I blame Mrs Thatcher for many of societies ills, remember her “there is no such thing as society”, speech? Surely that is when the rot set in, the abandonment of the post war social contract. Every man for himself and devil take the hindmost
I think that quote was actually a spin put about by the Guardian and other left wing media

I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand ‘I have a problem, it is the Government’s job to cope with it!’ or ‘I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!’ ‘I am homeless, the Government must house me!’ and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first.

Looking at the whole paragraph, she was saying, there is no lump called society, everyone should in the first instance look to themselves first, surely farmers would be the first to think self reliance is good before asking the state to manage everything. That is not saying as a society we shouldn't help the less fortunate, more that we need more "tough love" and expect everyone to do their bit for themselves first before expecting the government to solve all problems.

Know someone who used to work in housing department of local council. When they started selling off council houses most of his time was taken up trying to explain to people that had bought their council house why the council was no longer responsible for the upkeep of their home. He used to suffer a lot of verbal abuse from numpties that never had to take responsibility for anything before in their lives.

Actually, that's an example of the right sort of Tory thinking. Historically, people whose political leanings are like that have often lent those less privileged than themselves the bootstraps needed for the less privileged to pull themselves up by as well.

The lot in government now need shaming into lending strong enough bootstraps, or worse, need explaining that there is a need for bootstraps in the first place. It really is appalling. Bunch of we're all right Jacks.

and society seems to have got worse since then, now everyone expects the state to sort out everything for them, in the picture of people sitting on the top of the cliff, I would expect the attitude is, there can't be any danger because the council have not put up a fence to protect the edge and not employed wardens to make sure we don't go too close.

I agree, we are going through a period of weak people, who have never had it so good.

Tough times breeds strong people !!

Saw this on Twitter yesterday, really don’t know what they where thinking 🤷🏻‍♂️, it’s just getting to be an every day occurrence though!

Only this afternoon I was on my way back from a job, 30mph speed limit 50k tractor only the spinner on the back so not exactly holding up any traffic. Guy in a Porsche decides to pass me just as I’m coming up to a T junction, very nearly clips the front of the tractor trying to get back in then overshoots the junction! Good job nothing coming and I was already braking or could have been a mess 🤦🏻‍♂️. It’s like wacky races all the time, just don’t know what people are thinking at the moment or not as the case may be!

couple years ago going along busy A road with tractor and baler.
Coming to field gate indicated left, had to swing out into opposite lane to get in gate and a young lady in a convertible drove through beneath my loader.
Had to jump on brakes and tooted horn, she continued on her way totally unaware she'd have been decapitated if loader was 8 inches lower.
Car following behind her was stopped and sitting shaking their head in disbelief.
I actually got out tractor when I pulled into field because I was sure the bulb must have blown, but no indicator was working fine!! 🤬
