Are Tilly pass on the right planet?

They quote the STF (standard tension force) as the capacity of the strap and they aren't not the only ones who do this. The people who do this fundamentally don't understand the mechanics involved. Comes under the heading of a little bit of information is dangerous

Yes you may only be able to apply 350KG of tension to the strap with the ratchet but by doing this you create a taut system where by in order for the item you are securing to move its not 350KGs it has to overcome its the full capacity of the strap.

The 350kgs of tension you apply with the ratchet is a pre-load with the aim of preventing the strap ever going slack and then getting a shock load when the loading goes from loose too tight should your cargo move.
You should educate that muppet officer on this (y) What a plank.

Still like rope ,and can do a few different hitchs
but tell me where to find that nice red and blue rope that lasted ages and was not stiff as hell and slippy like thois new blue crap ,
Perhaps the older softer rope was poly/sisal mix like hay twine is and the new ones are just poly ?

ive always had our trailers done by them as piece of mind but i think the time has come to find an alternative. Any recomendations????????

hate when companies start to go over the top id rather the money went somewhere else just to slow their ambitions down a bit. I can understand the whole story behind it and testing is a good thing dont get me wrong, but when people start to go over the top i just think my money would be better spend elsewhere as if they get too much behind them they will become a standard.

The just seam to be showing the wrong attitude to become the industry leaders in this area

Speak to your local HGV place. They will be able to inspect and brake test for you.

If you were doing mega miles, with your trailer each year. It would probably pay to get them to do it before each busy period. Or even some sort of inspection plan

It gives you a good paper record, you know your trailer is up to a good standard. Should the worse happen an approved HGV centres records would probably carry alot more clout, than TILLY should the worst happen, and had to be presented as evidence. As long as you also kept the records of any work they said needed doing being done.

im no expert on load securing ropes type but this is good stuff weve got a bigger diameter one for pulling trees over, like him so far, its not a stretchy one and dont mind water at all, will chafe a bit if yer careless, but thats like most rope got to be carefull in that way.

It costs us £100/trailer including any remedial work done, they get tested before harvest in June with the tractor it will be used with (Drawbar height makes a massive difference to braking efficiency and load compensator valves). Same place does any repairs, cost in minimal and they have access to parts/knowledge that we don't.
A large farming company in Yorkshire do the same with all their trailers. Pop into an HGV garage in Driffield ready for the main season. Builds up a portfolio of testing and maintenance.
