Plenty of us genuinely excited about implementing new tech, learning new (or new to us) methods- more intensive rotational grazing for sheep being a prime example,
Changing/ improving breeds etc etc.
In general progressing our businesses

why not do this AND get subsidy too?

Did I mention subs in my post?

Ohhhhhh. .....how interesting it's you who brings subs up when it wasn't even mentioned

For the record, I've actually been playing a part in a potential new generation of payments.

What exactly have you done except moaning on a internet forum?

I've asked you before on other threads, with no anwser so I'll ask again..... have you spoken to your MSP, or your MP about subs?

Do you attend nfu or similar industry body meetings to put forward your ideas?

Please do tell us what you're actually doing about the situation......

Shall I prepare for a deathly silence from you on this matter........?

we just saw a milk price drop of over 10 pence per litre

surely this is quite a foolish comparison to subs as the price is back up at 30ppl and dairy farmers are paying off the overdraft from the bad 18 months.....if subs go theyre gone for good selling up will be the only way to clear any debt
Not in dairy but I don't think sub would be a big % of income on an intensive dairy business and cross compliance would have potential to be a big headache - nitrates, slurry etc , could be wrong though

Right...... so what did you tell them?

What did they say in reply?

I assume you mean NFUS?

Complete and utter waste of time going to the NFU this side of the border!

Regardless of what ordinary members want they will do what the select few want and what the top bods at Stoneleigh think is right.

As for MP's mine is all for taking subs away and putting them into unworkable stewardship schemes ( like the current mid tier ) and wont hear anything else.

30ppl is a 10ppl profit to the efficient farmer, as ive said before put that in beef/sheep terms
Well lets say a farmer with a cop of 20ppl has cows yielding 6000 litres per year that's a profit of £600 per cow per year. Times that by 1.5 (18 months is a fair age to kill a beef animal) that's £900 profit. So add the £900 to whatever it costs to rear a beast to slaughter and that's the price it would be.

I will add this is an entirely made up scenario and some of the numbers may be a bit off.

most dairy farmers are getting over 9000l though? im told if dairy farmers arent clearing £1000/cow gross margin just now they shouldnt be farming, gross margin for sucklers is £200-300

and you've talked about becoming a dairy farmer:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.
most farmers are not doing 9000l
i have no idea what my gross margins are as it has no relation to PROFIT.
in reality there are 3 types of dairying.
1 lower yielding block calvers. high profit per litre but less litres ( mostly 3000,to 7000 litres cows. but they sell solids not litres)
2 high yielding cows 9000-12000 litres low profit per litre but lots of litres.
3 AYR calving family farms 7000-9000 litres low profit per litres and not that many litres.

our percentage of income derived from subs is around 3% on this yrs milk price.

Keep bashing the MPs, they are paid to take it (y)

I write a lot of letters and emails in a month, not on this issue but on most others, I like to think that even if they begin to dread opening them- at least they're thinking about what I have to say...
In short keep up the good work, most farmers are happy to say nothing

Any to Jacinderella?:whistle::sneaky::LOL:
At least one a week direct to Labour, more through Fed Farmers.. mainly asking what solution they have to rural unemployment if they bring in large financial penalty to farmers, how does that money come back to the rural economy- is unemployment the new employment?
No replies from Taxcinda, but the working party will look into it if elected. 9 years in opposition and they still haven't thought past winning an election?
Meanwhile most opponents are keyboard FB warriors and won't bother to pen a letter until a year after the election if at all..:banghead:

I'm beginning to wonder if it's just me who doesn't enjoy the idea of being penetrated for the promise of money? o_O
Ten days to go.
