Are you feeling lonely and isolated?

A good point but some are in the position now that they have so much time on their hands that it can soon get you down . We have to be understanding of those who are not as fortunate as us to be busy all the time .
I have a niece in London in a fourth floor flat with a 6 yr old boy . Her husband has disappeared because he couldn't stick being shut in all day . She now has to cope with the lad on her own cooped up . We are so lucky being farmers and we must not forget it .

Poor lass, my sister is not much different, mind you she Divorced the muppet so escaped being stuck in with him!

Im not sure if this is an appropriate question. Somone can delete it if not please.
It can often be much easier to talk to a stranger than someone you know, as they dont know you, they wont judge you. Of course, some dont have anyone at home to talk to either.

For those who would like a chat with someone, would it be an idea where we can volunteer to list phone numbers somehow so that someone can ring another member up for a chat? In reality in such situation I think both parties would benefit for the chat?
Im happy to list my number if the idea is supported.

"What is this life , if full of care , we have no time to stand and stare . No time to stand beneath the boughs , and ruminate like sheep and cows" The problem is that even if you have the time , as I have , I haven't the physical ability .

To stand and stare or to ruminate....?

You tell me . It's over 70 years, possibly 80 , since I learned that quote !
Yes, my grandmother used to quote it often and it comes to my mind usually on a pleasant evening when I'm leaning on a five barred gate surveying all I own ! Was just wondering what physical abilities were needed though - obviously my grandmother edited that bit out !

The physical abilities are the ability to get there in the first place , and to stand any length of time when you do get there . And I've just checked the actual poem from W.H. Davies - Leisure it's called , and the correct quote is "stare as long as sheep and cows " taken from "English verse .com " My memory failed me !

I've just got the dreaded letter to renew my driving licence. The optician said he thought I'd lose it two years ago so I haven't been near one since! But now they've given me a deadline. I live alone, two miles from town, and TFF is a life saver. What do people do? I'm thinking of advertising for an occasional chauffeur as some things need the Land Rover and trailer (fire wood, feed, etc). I suspect I'm autistic as I am quite happy on my own -- but with dogs and horses which I WOULD miss!

I have one (only) delightful livery with FIVE kids living with an OH with two of his own. But not all are at home. And another girl I can call on for help has three young boys under ten living in a row with neighbours on each side. How on earth do they manage? I really feel for them and count myself lucky. I am still fairly active. Since lock down I've been repairing things I'd normally throw out. Heater, incubators, vacuum cleaner, electric fencer, etc. and now fitting a wood burner into the bedroom. But the prospect of not being able to drive is worrying me.

I can imagine, it must be frightening. Yes, we have Tesco delivered (if we want to) and it is possible to buy most things off the internet, but I could not imagine not being able to drive. In the future (not sure when) there are going to be self driving cars so it won't be a problem, but that does not help you. My aunt is 92 and still driving, but usually she lives in the centre of a small village with a little shop.

Two miles... electric bike? Mobility thingy (don't laugh) - other alternatives? Horse! 99% of things can be delivered

It's just the stuff that needs the trailer, really. Also, I have my own ideas about shopping! (I'm a bachelor, so do my cooking!). But I expect I'll work it out. I could take the quad across the fields to the bus stop, then chain it to a sign post. I have a bike (for the students who come in the summer) but how the hell do you ride the things when they fall over before the launch off?
