Which basically means the UK Gov would shaft you straight away, but they histroically done that to allot of our industry's... France pushed for the common market originally to support its farmers.
Preventing further wars between France and Germany had a fair bit to do with it. However, France was highly autocratic during the post war period when it came to its agriculture, the creation of SAFER (a national land management organisation) suggests that natural justice was not its main priority and such an attitude being prevalent during the founding of the common market/EU might help explain its high handedness.

I’ve had a few dealings with the SAFER and have always found them very useful and cooperative (y)
I wonder how many actual business transactions our resident man with a cat has had with them?
Non at all, and whether it is staffed with nice people is completely beside the point. SAFER was set up to undermine the free market in land and was the object of hatred and disdain by the farming community, except those who benefited from it of course. Has it yet shaken off the shadow of favoritism and corruption which haunted its early days? Is it any more accountable to anyone but itself? Are academic comparisons with Soviet Russia and Mao's agricultural revolution still valid? But anyway, I'm sure they are nice to kittens which, as you might appreciate, is something close to my heart.

It favours young farmers getting onto farms, which doesn’t suit me personally no...
