Just used this on an obstinate 35 engine and was impressed the way it started without knocking. It has a very fine spray and lubricant which may explain why. Other makes usually give a loud knock.

They can be a very valuable diagnostic tool. part of the toolkit and perfectlya ceptable if used correctly, just like all the other tools.

Oh I agree, but so often people just buy it by the case and use it endlessly instead of curing the problem.

It's no different to a booster pack. Great thing for getting you out of trouble or helping you diagnose the issue, but if you have to use it every time then it's telling you that new batteries are probably in order.

Use brake cleaner. It gives a whole lot softer start.

That’s what I use to get my mk4 Astravan to go after changing the fuel filter, there’s no electric lift pump for it to self bleed and the proper bleeding kit is a pita to use.
A sniff of brake cleaner and it soon pulls some diesel though and starts/runs fine afterwards, plus it’s the way the local Vauxhall garage do it !.

You can get very irregular detonation using ether - saw a landrover 2 1/4 with a broken crank after ether had been used.

Its the kiss of death for a 2 stroke engine due to the lack of lubrication if used repeatedly.
