Not really saying it was wrong to close it.
But davidstow is where it is for a reason. And the worlds largest cheese factory was built in the middle of nowhere in Texas, not even any dairy farms near it. New dairy farms were built around it
I thought they looked at moving the factory but couldn’t get the same tasting cheese/culture.

Is an Arla contract/member shares transferable (available for sale) to another non Arla farm if the original owner retires/packs up cows.

Can the contract/shares be held by a Ltd company?

The only way to transfer the Arla contract is to sell the cows with the land to the purchaser. Or to transfer everything to an incoming tenant.

Hope it’s very clear, simple and doesn’t go down a route. Confident it won’t tho.
The message is clear, but the dialogue maybe not so clear. It has to be legally complex to cover all angles. There are a lot of people trying to use imaginative ways to get in right now!

Whether is be milk quotas, grants or milk contracts , farmers are very intuitive in finding a way through or round obstacles.

Especially if there is a big discrepancy in contract prices

But if Arla/any coop is near the top of the market, it must make those shares more valuable to anyone not in that group. Restricting how they might be transferred will be detrimental to those members who want retire/stop supplying if the coop sets the price they are to be traded at. Someone wanting to join is likely to put a premium on those shares to access the higher milk price

I don't know it increases the value as a retirement payout, but would in a transfer value with a strong ongoing milk price.

The value of investments can both rise and fall and you may not see the full value in return.
Look at FM share price.

Their are no Arla shares. Members have individual capital accounts that are repaid on leaving, that is the same whether someone else takes over the membership or not. The value of the membership is decided between the farmer giving up and the farmer taking over, Arla has no say over the price of that. However Arla does have rules about the eligibility of the person taking over.
