Auction v Deadweight

Totally agree deadweight seems to be in too fewer hands and possibly not enough local abattoirs but sometimes auctions favour certain buyers

Auctions having a good time at present with prices but a lot seem to have changed and reduced staff in recent months . Where abattoirs are struggling for staff

We need both to keep each other in check
are you sure of that ? or is it just a common or popular thought not based on the factual modern day ? aamoi Deadweight is by far the most prominent in Australasia and they have very efficient systems in place for meat processing.

I'm talking about a proper , joined up modern, efficient system , one trip for stock etc.
seeing as were up against it with peoples attitude towards livestock production anyway.

I know that lambs lose 3kg between home and most live auction centres... I also hear plenty of moans about liveweight buyers buying on about eight accounts each in market, and a good lot of their lamb purchases go to the same abattoirs that we can all sell direct to, and at the same ppkg/dw.
But when stock is plentiful I'm fairly certain that auctions help keep deadweight honest.

Probably evens itself out, but definitely need both options to keep either of them remotely honest!
We do use both but 80% goes through the auction market, if we don't continue to use them they will close & we will then be left at the mercy of a few buyers who will definitely take advantage of their position.
"If you don't use it you will lose it", so don't ever forget it!!
