Right not sure where to put this. With cows out at grass all day and firing the change of my routine has convinced me I need to look at this. Currently have a converted lawn mower doing a fine job. The problem is not living on site and having cattle over three holdings this job is taking considerable time. I’ve got an old hydraulic scraper system which is one of my thoughts to convert. Like the new wasserbauer but £££. What does everyone else do and no bunker suggestions lol ta

Definitely trough. Don't rule it out. Unless that is you've bought a feeder that has a low feed out height. I went down that route after I got fed up with cows pushing dry silage away from themselves. My feeder was a paddle, so discharge height was good. Has to be on the proviso that you make a sled to sit at one end, and tow it up the trough on a length of chain hooked on your bucket each morning to clean it out. Mind you I ultimately ended up back on easy feed anyway, so trough not there now. If you're going to spend pounds, might as well spend it on something that reduces labour, and doesn't add running cost unnecessarily.

The tiny bit of electric it uses charging the battery hasn’t made a noticeable difference to the electric bill,other than that there has been no other running costs since installing it,no doubt at some point it’ll need the wheels replacing but I’ve found a cheaper source than the Lely ones for those so that’s all good,I’ve gone to once a day feeding from twice a day since having it so saving time and We very rarely get any grub left now as they seem to clear it all up,goes every hour and I remember people saying you’ll miss cows bulling by not pushing feed up and casting eyes over them.... rubbish,a decent man knows when cows are due bulling so you keep a eye on them anyway

Think the bigger one is more if you want it to go outside of a shed (although I maybe wrong) I’ll see if I’ve got some pics of what it’s pushing up in the winter,I put out 3.5 tonne a side in a 160ft shed and it’ll have no problem keeping that pushed up,if it struggles at all it will push what it can on that run and then next time it will usually be ok to push what it couldn’t last time,think it was 9k but I’d imagine they’ve gone up a bit since then,heard of one make 8k at a farm sale which was a good few years old
That’s good to know mines 160ft and put out 5000+
