Autosteer and 3m combi drill

You need to know where the correction comes from. For eg, green star is Cornwall so the receiver needs to see (from leics) south, so actually, I could go quite up to the south side of trees, but the north side oh no :nailbiting:
Annoyingly, having been here for 7 years, I still haven’t quite worked out the safe side yet🥴, and now I have a top con too which behaves differently
So north-facing branches block your signal but it can go through all of the hills between Cornwall and Leicestershire?! Your signal comes from satellites; there are ground reference stations across the world to help triangulate the satellites exact position but you don’t need to ‘see’ them. Bit different with RTK whereby you need to be relatively close to your base station signal.

It’s what the dealer said some 12 years back and also how I have found it. But yes it needs to see southwards even if they are southwards satellites

Another tip, I’ve never yet had a drill that follows dead in centre. When steering you will have compensated without knowing it really. You need to accurately set the offset, or at least go around in bouts (say of 6) rather than up and down to reduce the gaps/overlaps. I actually did a season with a 3 m combi and was surprised it was 100mm off centre🤪

Looking to start spring drilling soon, with a new to us 3m Kvernland accord DA power Harrow combi and recently purchased a tractor with auto steer. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to go about using the GPS for a beginner? Fields are 10 acre average with not many straight hedges, is a curved AB line the best option or use a straight AB line? Thanks

what tractor/ steering system are you using?

So you can get capital grants towards steering systems to improve modern farming practices yet it means you have to thin trees out to get them to work properly 😂

hey ho , won’t be many trees planted on big farms then!

Another tip. You can put your AB line in the middle of the field. If We have a line of electric poles, start there and then they wont be in the way when spraying.
Just before you go to fill up with seed put your marker down so you have a mark to line up to when you come back. When you come back and lined up press centre shift on GPS if you are on SF1 and all will be good. If you are on another system and it is using EGNOS you will need to pay for a better signal if using it for drilling.
We use AB curve trac on a couple of fields that are a soft S shape fine on SF1.
Before you press resume steer button try and get straight if you have mounted equipment other wise the tractor may suddenly aggressively turn hard putting your check chains under stress.
You need to make shore you put a delay in the saterlight switching off for a couple of hours in the settings. This means if you switch the tractor off to fill up or have lunch you still have full signal when you start up again.

Not many fields with straight sides here .

Between the red Mark's is along the back of a wood at least 3m curve into the field from end to end so take Ab off each end and overlap on the headland then put 4 short runs in to fill the blue bit in which then makes the first full tramline a narrow one .

The easiest answer is do whatever you normally would to drill the field so wherever you want it straight take your a b from there

In my experience of jd and Trimble curve lines with narrow equipment will mean misses. We just use the marker arms for all headlands.

Disagree, I use SF1 pulling a trailed 3m Vaderstad and I find the Greenstar excellent for drilling headlands. I’m fact it’s is incredible just how good it is 👍 I use the adaptive curve function for the headlands.

Completely agree; I’ve drilled beet on a gentle adaptive curve with a 6 row drill and inter row hoed it with a 12 row. 20 minutes ensuring every dimension in the settings are correct and the dome is calibrated will mean that a curve is just as accurate as an AB line. The only time they go wrong is with an ever-decreasing curve when eventually you will run out of space/lock and it will get upset...just as any driver would 😂. If you’re on sf1 (in jd speak) going steady around headlands on 10 acres or more you may find your line has drifted a bit by the time you get back to the start.
You’ll wonder how you managed without it; just remember like most things electronic involving settings; garbage in = garbage out. Another tip; make sure you have good signal before setting your AB line.
