Autumn Calving Cows mastitis

What do folk do for there autumn calving beef cows to prevent mastitis in them?

Usually we try to cover them start of July with fly pour on but every year get 5 or 6 out of 90 that get hit with mastitis!
By the time they are noticeable the quarter is already shot and usually the cow has to get put on the cull list!

what else do people try to do or recommend to help prevent strike?

Up until start of July they are running on a hill that is not easily handled then start calving about 10th August

I have had 6 done this in amongst autumn calvers.
Ive also had a few with it sucking calves. Do you think there’s been a calf running in for a suck and let the mastitis in? 3 out of the 6 were soft dairy x types so it’s likely.

We keep all the calves in shed as ran as bulls and put onto an intensive ration so weaning later is not really an option!

One batch that goes right to the top of a hill are usually ok, it's the other batch that stays down on the low grounds as not enough hill space! They get fly pour on but just seem to always get 4 or 5 every year usually around the start of August

We are running most of our cows 1500 ft and the flys have been unbelievably bad this time
We always get some but probably worse than normal

Had really bad flies in the west coast , never really get them and had two autumn calvers get summer mastitis . Took them in and fixed it and put them back out with swish on them also rubbed swish on their bags . Bought fly traps which are working great
