This is the transcript of yesterday's Lords debate on the second amendment of The Environment Bill. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/lord...Z45Ut3t4UoQJMC4MC7vLziBlqV01Nyp6Dq39uQ#g629.2

I thought it interesting that Baroness Young of Old Scone made the following contribution, given that she was Chair of The Environment Agency for quite a few years:

Has anyone cared this autumn?
So far driving around I have seen, slurry, chicken manure, compost, fym and AD juice being spring and not in isolated loads?
its still summer here 20 degrees and glorious sun !!!! and our esteemed politicial sector representative says we should be using organic fertilizer

Some I’ve heard have taken notice, others haven’t.

The EA haven’t got the staff to enforce it this year. I think next year will be different? So plans need to be made, unless they tear up the rule.

Personally I think there will be a big rethink once the water companies and AD plants are full to burst and no where to spread it.

Lot of land and lot of farms in spring don’t/can’t take muck as land doesn’t travel or cropping doesn’t fit!

My mate works for the EA and he told me the river Severns the cleanest it's ever been almost drinkable, so I don't know why they are pushing this ban unless it's just another way to keep their funding from the Government.

"There is a way of doing this..."
Yea, its called livestock. That other thing the govt are trying to cut.

Livestock won't work. If the chemicals have left the farm gate in the guise of cereals or livestock it makes no difference. They have to be replaced otherwise everything fails - regardless of the farm having livestock.

The only way to move away from mineral fertiliser is for HMG to recycle human waste. Which would require at the very least admission that HMG don't know what they are doing.

TBH I think they are all nuts.
