Autumn OSR Growth Regulator

If interested, there are some nice articles on the Morley ag foundation website on ten and CCC as autumn and spring pgrs.

Of course, the cynic would say that a teb/CCC mix would be banned on osr......but a metconaxole/ mepiquat mix aka Caryx is fine. Strange how the first is a month X of cheap generics and the latter.......isn't.

Didn’t make much difference to height or yield by the look of things.

View attachment 838582thank you for the advice, I won’t do an autumn growth reg. I might need some bigger dogs soon though.

Same field 3 months later. Maybe no early N would be the best growth regulator.

Thinking of putting some Tebuconazole on for Light leaf spot and to regulate growth. What rate would you use to give the best/max growth regulation? Has anybody used Toprex?

Toprex is good as a PGR but the difenconazole is useless on light leaf spot.

You’d want max rate teb (250g/ha) for PGR effect and that’s only ok for medium thick crops. You’d get good LLS “control” at that rate but if it still looks like it did in your earlier photos you’ll need something stronger and some N rate adjustments too. Caryx and/or Toprex would do that.

Full rate Tebuconazole isn’t going to cost much so might do that with some Boron. Whether I follow up with Caryx I’m not sure, it’s very expensive, not great on disease and I think it had a negative impact on yield last time I used it.

I’d see how leggy it looks in March and what larval burden it carries. I know I talked you out of autumn PGRs but if you remember I did advocate using them in spring instead, having let the winter have a go at it.

Good looking OSR in this post - mid August drilling is the way forward as long as the rain gods are on your side!

Getting to the time of thinking about light leaf spot control. Farmers Weekly got me thinking about the use of Prothioconazole or Tebuconazole or a bit of both.

What are grower opinions? A full does of Teb is still cheaper than a straight Proth or Proth Teb mix but is it worth the risk. My OSR is looking good in most places and the PGR effect of Teb would be appreciated as I'm growing Rocca HEAR which likes to stand tall.

What do grower here do? Straight full rate Teb, Teb/Proth mix (135g/60g) or straight proth (87.5g)?

Full rate teb (250g/ha) has mild PGR abilities and is quite good at preventing further spread of light leaf spot by itself. For decent PGR you're into metconazole and Caryx territory which has poor LLS control but strong PGR effect, so I'd tank mix them. Proline + teb will give very good control of LLS but you need to consider the spend in relation to likely yield. I'd mix Proline and generic teb as it's way cheaper than off the shelf mixes like Kestrel & Prosaro.
