Are they the only two varieties in that mixture?

It would be nice if you could list the mix for us to see it's prescription, always keen to learn. :)
VALERIO Perennial Ryegrass Late Tet
Trials conducted by the Federal Plant Variety Office have certified its low susceptibility to rust
Some timothy and white clover - Timothy does not seem to be effected so much
Don't seem we are allowed to learn- we are supposed to know the lot - my boss explained it all in great detail including the reasons he uses the grasses he does - Desease resistance be high up on the agenda

Good thread everyone, all very interesting. Slightly off the subject but I have a field we reseeded last year and the clover has gone mental. Added some to the mix (which was a combo of part used seeds...irg, pp, fester's etc) which might have been a mistake! Basically the clover has killed the grass as it can't get ahead.

I'm thinking MCPA or 24d to slow it down and see if the grass shows itself... what do you think?

Clover is mental this year- is there and Docks? Dock spray would knock it right back, may be worth overseeding some grass in the spring before the clover gets going

There will be a nip in the air shortly, which will soon knock the clover back, releasing an N hit to boost the grass up. I certainly wouldn't be spending any money on trying to control it now.

Often happens in a dry year.

More nitrogen will help the grass keep up next time around.

I'm not sure spraying will have the result you want. The clover will flop over and look unhappy but it does often recover quite quickly.

this will be lot 2, first lot, fine, obviously not so strong as the 'proper' ones, we try and use them on 'more' longer lines, that don't get a daily move, but often do ! they are ok, and at the price, if 1 goes tits up, it doesn't matter to much.
and they are geared !

Dreschlera I would have thought especially in West Wales and recent weather, and if Aber varieties feature in the seed mix.

Try to remove the growth and tactical N application should help it over the autumn

That's my penny's worth I might be wrong I'm no agronomist and don't sell seed just small farmer and had a bad experience with Dreschlera few years back ended up reseeding the block a second time in 2 years and hey ho the resistance scores of recommended grass varieties change as years go by......

Dreschlera is black looking lesions, looks horrible. Some Aber varieties were known for problems with this some years ago.

Again, the only way farmers will ever know is by buying from companies that do their own trials of grass seed varieties. Seed breeders are interested in getting their latest and greatest varieties to market. The recommended lists are a guide but there are plenty of varieties that do not appear on them any longer or which never did appear on them.

Why would a grass with a score of 2.8 even be on the list when the better ones are 8

perhaps we ought to be using a cheap fungicide on grass, to stop rust, often thought about it, never done it.

'Cheap fungicides'.

Can't remember ever seeing those two words in the same sentence. Not many fungicides will necessarily be approved for grass, as it would require animal feeding studies to be done which very firms bother with.

If you think forefront is dear at £25/acre the world of fungicides will seem a horrifying place.
