I have an arable field that is under performing, its a tricky field with some steep bits in it and thin soil.
Indices are ok and pH is spot on. Its been in arable only rotation for 15 plus years.
This year it is down to rape so will be cut relatively early.
I am either going to put it down to stubble turnips for the winter and then establish grass in the spring or I did wonder about banging in something after the rape.
The grass will be mainly for finishing lambs and possibly a later cut of haylage.
If I go the autumn establishment route what mix would people suggest. Given my location and soils we are drought prone so I want something that will keep going if it gets dry. (I was feeding haylage in August 2016 as we burnt to a brown waste land).
So OK to sown in Aug if there is some moisture in the soil.
Good mix to finish lambs
Will OK to keep down for 3/4 years
Drought tolerant
Can stand being cut later summer if worth it
Is there such a thing @Great In Grass ?
