Drilled 96% of my intended wheat area, finishing today. The last 2 fields are still waterlogged, so will be spring barley instead. After a 1am finish this morning, I'm having an early night before drilling a few acres of beans for a neighbour in the morning.

Good luck to you all.

Some looks ok. Lots of smeared wheelings as you can see in the heavier patches.

It's a long shot, but if anyone is looking for Skyfall wheat seed we have a nice heap grown for South West Seeds with a 98% germination. It'll be a shame if it goes for chicken feed.

I'm impressed with your percentage drilled, particularly given how much rain you seem to have had in your region. Well done!

Do you think that the past few years of direct/strip till have helped your soils and hence helped you drill so much this autumn?

In the same season as you have drilled 96% of your wheat area, many others are turning to the plough and combi in order to carry on drilling. Yet, you have done it all (I presume) with the Claydon.

Thinking I might just start winter ploughing... :cautious: The heavy ground, ie most of it is turning up too wet to combi directly behind the plough and too few drying days between the downpours for it to come good... At this point is there anything to be gained by waiting for a drying spell that might never come? Where I can get it turned over it will at least hide the green bits and weather down, might still get an opportunity to combi drill between now and Christmas...

Drilled 96% of my intended wheat area ….. Some looks ok.

Very similar here, it's been raining here in Devon all week so have now decided, very reluctantly, to put all the drills away until March/April 2020.

Drilled 100% of wheat (but 10% short on WO).

And some looks ok - probably just about half of it, currently.

But then, beauty is, as they always say, in the eye of the beholder.

Exactly my thinking, started on the driest fields, turning over ok, heavy fields are still a no go zone. Just cant get excited over it currently. If it comes dry then I'll bang some in, if not then it'll go for Spring cropping. Stuff drilled two weeks ago locally is emerging but looks nothing special after the heavy rain we've of late.
