Any recommendations for an Ayrshire bull to cross onto freisian type cows on a grazing system? Want to decrease cow size, improve hardiness and feet and legs but maintain milk yield and quality. I have one in mind but curious for an opinion from others more experienced with the breed.

You could try Skyfall. I havn't used him as a young bull , but his proof has just come through this year. From a good cow family - and I did use his half bro W M Modern Reality , fairly heavily. Available from Cattle Services ( Ayr ) Ltd. Skyfall a bit positive for size on Ayrshire base - might not increase size too much on Friesians , unless through hybrid vigour. Manderville WILL reduce size , but other negatives too.

I was speaking to our local rep about this yesterday and he said abattoirs aren’t killing the same number of cows now either as they can’t sell the beef.

My final sale , a week today @ Carlisle - 60 head - 15 in milk , 30 odd in calf young cows and heifers pus a few select stirks and calves.

Among the cows we got from @Cowmangav earlier in the year these 2 are looking well on their holidays at GYS
