Never answered your question about Bulls @Big_D In the past I’ve worked with some top Ayrshire herds but avoided using them myself until I was up and running. Looking to dip my toes into the breed now. Any tips/things to look out for tff Ayrshire cow men?

There was an ad run by the society a few years back "your neighbour's won't know you're using Ayrshire but your bank manager will" owing to the progeny of the cross being black and white. Be welcome to have a nosy at ours, can show you a few crosses. Have an Ayrshire cross b & w by one of cowmangavs bulls which has been a good cow. What did you think of tam cowan on Friday night?

Yeah I’d really appreciate a look around. I’ll be in touch next few weeks to see when possible. Oh Tam was bloody funny but Robbie Duncan had us in pieces, class night but it was just a sea of people never noticed you or most of the room lol

I fancied trying an Ayrshire or two against our holsteins. Bought a 3rd calver doing 35 kgs she peaked at 65 kgs consistently been over 60kgs for months now. I know its only one but its a great cow. When we classified the holsteins we scored her as an Ayrshire she went Ex91
What percentage is she?

We seem to spend a lot of time crossing lots of different breeds to try and get the traits that the Ayrshire had 30 yrs ago!

Unfortunately Ayrshire breeders seem intent on destroying it by trying to mimic a Holstein and crossing too much. They have lost the focus on what an Ayrshire is for, good foraging, quality milk and good feet and legs. They were never means to give 10k litres of white water and live in a shed 365.

Should be a good option for a 3 way cross.

I have some pedigrees I’m very keen to breed and keep pure, trying to buy in to the best families. As said above a good Ayrshire is a sound all round animal capable of great longevity
