What an interesting thread and just the kind of knowledge I’m looking for.
could someone tell me the ideal width of shed for conversion and how big the pens are ideally please ?
Also could some one give me a ballpark income per pig place per year before costs ?

My advice would be... if you can put up the building cheaply, share machinery and labour with another enterprise and utilise the muck then you will get a fair profit for a fair investment on money and effort. I have found BQP to be a good to work with. Consistent cash flow is nice and they are flexible to different methods within reason. I have moved to double sized pens which is strawed up using a self built spreader that spreads straw without chopping (so greatly reduces dust). Mucking out is done with a loader rather than a fork. Less time moving muck from one place to another with a fork gives more time to care for the pigs. IPPC is the main reason for me not to expand - though 2000 pigs for a small (400ac) farm is a nice fit.

This is the answer to the daily bedding by hand thing.

I've seen a much larger device that hangs overhead, you could fit a heston bale in it easily.

Very expensive I hear, very impressive too, I've seen one in operation in Denmark.
One advantage of daily hand bedding is that it is an opportunity to inspect the animals, feeders and drinkers thoroughly.

How handy are you.it can be done for less but you will have to do most of the work yourself.the shed I’ve been helping with the ready Mix was laid with a bit of help.the drinkers feeders and pannels were imported direct from china the pots hinges and fittings were made by a local firm.we carried out all fitting and made the sliding doors did all the wiring and pluming.then finished off last week by fitting the gale breakers with the supervision and help from the manafactures.
Did it save much importing direct from China ? do you have the contact details of the suppliers ?
