Lost a couple sh ewes today , been checked couple times a week ,others check most days , looks like flies carpet bombed their backs , huge hatch of v small maggots , was white with eggs deep in wool though looked ok from a distance , i knew cover was coming to the end about now but didnt expect such a huge load so quick in october , sometimes get a small patch around a dirty bum or on some bird mess easily seen and treated as a rule , just a warning to keep an eye out with these humid still days / nights

Sheared 3 ewes today, one must’ve had a small hatch last week then the rain drowned them and then a re hatch today.
Sheared close to 30 ewes and the odd lamb in the last 2 weeks, not a single one on the bum, all shoulders and on the back where they sweat the most

We always have a long season for mawks here, so we tend to over do the late cover. Not had any trouble on their fleeces but we've be absolutely plagued, all summer, with ewes (and quite a few lambs) being struck in their feet .

Made a right mess of some of 'em  Had to fetch 15 home and had them in the shed for a week so I could footbath them every day.

One of the drawbacks of spraying for fly rather than chucking them in the dip tub - at least they got their feet done then.

A splash of OP dip in the footbath would sort that a treat…… allegedly/a friend told me/it did in the good old days.🤐

Got topside of it now. Turned the last 7 out yesterday. Sorting the mawks wasn't the problem but hardening the damage they'd done to their feet took the time.

Do you find that if they have footrot they can get maggots in their feet. When they lie down the maggots can then get on their fleece where the dirty foot rubs.

Yeah, that can definitely happen.

Our problem stemmed from these sheep grazing a wetland nature reserve. This year the grass was a bit long and stalky. That lead to a bit of scald and that was an ideal place for the flies to strike.

As I said above, we always have a big problem (April to October, inclusive) so we use plenty of pour on which keeps their fleeces clean but doesn't help their feet.

You're doing very well then.
Like others have said, feet have been a problem this year, presumably because of scald leading to more trouble.
Lessons learned for next year - spray thistles early to stop scald, Orf & any other issues, then spray thistles again.
Lots of MCPA required

Iv got very very bad feet.. and had a lot with maggots in there, the clik extra everything had must of worked because most lambs with maggots in there feet had signs of egg lay on there under belly’s
