Anyone made their own bat box, or have a plan of what one should look like?

Apparently they’ve to be made out of woodcrete (who knew?).

Any advice be appreciated (within reason).

Have looked at buying one but it’s 3-4month lead time and they’re needing at least £90 online for a box, which seems expensive.......unless I’ve misunderstood what a “bat box” is.

Thanks.......

but they classify it as a “hibernation chamber” stipulates made of woodcrete, breathable and waterproof walls around 4” thick, 500mm long cylinder, sited securely, minimum 4m off the ground. Online the exact thing ranges from £250 to £500, which seems ridiculous, and all out of stock. Thought we’d make our own if can get idea of what’s required.

How hard can it be?..

Sounds like a good business opportunity for someone.

Developers here have been using one that fits into the cavity in the walls ,,its now a stipulation on new builds

We’ve to fit raised slates and bat bricks during the work.

The point of this hibernation box is to be hung from a high place before commencement of work in order that any hibernating bats found during work can then be relocated to the overly expensive tree decoration for the duration of their hibernation. If more than 4 bats are found, works must cease immediately and relevant authorities be informed.

Think if we’d found a dead body in the attic it’d be more straightforward.

Make your own and fit a sticker saying made from bat grade woodcrete.

Make your own and fit a sticker saying made from bat grade woodcrete.

“Prior to any works commencing which could affect bats or their roosts, at least one purpose-built woodcrete bat box, suitable for winter use and for the species of bat present, must be erected on a suitable structure, in a sheltered position, within 100 metres of the site.”

I was thinking it would say “purpose built” on the sticker in big letters, and “suitable for winter use” in smaller ones below.

Just need to figure out what woodcrete is....

If I don't know and you don't know what woodcrete is,would a batman know?
