Have been following this with interest!
Have up til last year kept our bacto sub 20, now running at 40 with the odd blip up to 70. Changed to lactic acid teat dip, the orange stuff because someone said it helps with warts?! Maybe time to change back to iodine.
What do you put in for a bomb wash?

Having our milk tested today to see if its the cows or plant, I'll be gutted if its the cows as we do full prep and are meticulous, going to bomb it to night, flooding problem is actually the milk pump which is cutting in but not pumping (crept up on me without being noticed ), interesting about the orange dip as ours is orange and after full prep when you actually put the unit on, the teats are still bright orange, just can't seem to get the stain off, but it also makes you think its good stuff as it stays the course.

Trying to sort our bacto out, one of the first things we were suggested to do, was put cctv on the collection point. We get paid on those samples, but does any buyer check the lab ? Water content is measured with fat protien etc, in the same test, but that test, is not licenced for water, the 'right' test, is expensive, and therefore not 'used'. We all rely on trust, in these milk tests, how often do we have a result, that is 'way' out ? Our butterfat dropped by 1% from previous test, and the following, an error of 20%. Yes, buyer ignored that test, fine, but, how accurate is it ? how many little, odd, results go through. without any questions ? We sample every pick-up, and with cows on a tmr, other than cc, being on the same routine, tests should not vary much, ours do, although we are not tmr. Does make you wonder how accurate these tests really are.

Is there anyone independent that does these test to compare?

Well we had two tankers take our milk yesterday as first lorry was full (not all from ours) .The tests bactoscans came in at 4am the samples were tested 1 HR apart
One was 12 the other 22 from the same tank!

Had our first result back since changing teat dip and doing bomb wash 68, that's the lowest for a while, the first bomb wash was an eye opener, couldn't believe the amount of orange gunk on the filter, definitely think the teat dip was sticking to the in side of pipe work, done 5 more bomb washes since (just to make sure) and all were clean, fixed milk pump (seals were going) found this wasn't causing the flooding (but not helping) then found a crack in one of the plastic nipples on the wash line, this seems to have stopped the flooding now its fixed, have changed to doing a warm rinse through after milking rather than the cold we were doing before, now looking forward to results in the coming days and also the milk test results to say whether its the cows or parlour at fault. Thank you for the advice/tips.
