Bad start

Just to prove I don't know everything I thought I'd post this morning's events. Both sons out on the beer last night so I was in charge this morning. Lambing due to start around the fifth of march so it was bound to kick off before long in any case. Got up this morning to find a cull ewe had lambed. She had twins but only one quarter and a very bad eye infection which is why she is still here.

Then had an ewe with one dead and one live which had also prolapsed. Took her to the vet to fix up. Left the live lamb in the van with her whilst I did something else and the feckin bitch lay on top of it.

Then had a triplet ewe lambing. Got all three out alive just about. Went to the house to mix some colostrum and by the time I went back one lamb was dead and another on his last legs. He died too.

Oh the joys of lambing. Anyhow, I'm the one who always tells everyone not to worry about bad starts and dead lambs but to concentrate on the ones that are still alive. So onwards and upwards eh. :)

Iv only the 1 lamb running, from 10 days ago. But I have lost 4 ewes in this 'suicide fortnight'. 2 were frustrating and slightly annoyed I lost. The other 2, 1 was a prolapse put her puddings out and I can't remember the other now... I think I just found her dead with nothing obviously wrong.

You can only deal with what's put in front of you, there are good and bad days throughout lambing, and throughout life in fact, so no point in dwelling on any particular one.

In a few hours today's events will be yesterday's, and there will be other things to focus on.

Anything that can be learned from should be put to use, and anything that can't, can be put down to experience.

Onwards and upwards as you say.

You're not alone Dai, I'm not due until 24th of March but had one prolapse this evening. First prolapse in over 4 years. Spoon in, baler twine on, given painkiller & alamycin. See how she is tomorrow. And to top it off got iodine all over wedding ring; anyone any tips on getting the tarnish off???

Aye, it got worse!

Went round ewes after the rugby. Ewe lambed triplets up on an exposed rocky knowe :banghead: 1 dead, 1 is 50:50 if itl survive and the third has a decent chance...

Not one of the TexX ewes so I won't post in my thread, just a commercial Lleyn to the Texel.
