Badger Population

The number of dead animals seen dead on the road is very often a good indication of the population of a species in an area. I am seeing fewer dead badgers these days. I imagine that this is due to the fact that we are in a badger culling area. What are other members finding?.

Less badgers more hedgehogs on our nearest A road , didn't see a hedgehog for 25 + years before the cull but now a common sight

Badger shyte in lots of places and they are coming into the garden digging up bee nests in the lawn .. fudgin badgers.

40 years ago never saw a badger , dead or alive. Now commonsight here in Suffolk

I had never seen a badger in the flesh until about 25 years ago. Now see dead badgers on the roads on an almost daily basis.

I forgot to say in my original post that we have hedgehogs on the patio every evening, up to 3 one night. Mrs LS is feeding them. Other villagers are seeing more too.

Used to have loads of hedgehogs, lapwings, curlews etc, and no badgers. Now we have a huge population of badgers and no hedgehogs or ground nesting birds.

Same situation here in South Shropshire . More dead Hedgehogs and many fewer Badgers to be seen on the roads round here. We are also in a cull area.

Still seeing plenty on the side of the road unfortunately. I would say more likely to see dead badgers than a dead deer or fox on the roadside.

we see h/hogs, and a massive increase in ground nesting birds
but still see dead badgers, on our boundary A road, we look at that, as a natural solution to control new badgers coming in.

Had four years of cull,started seeing hedgehogs again a couple of years ago.Saw a pair of grey partridge last week,first for over twenty years.Not had to swerve to avoid a badger on the road since the cull got going.

Yes,we are. Virtually nobody round here isn't shut up with Tb though

These organisations are funded by public donations. They don't have to be concerned about the costs of their "good work "

Heard of the police on a blue light call hit a badger flat out, had to return to the station because it was stuck in the front grill!

Overrun with badgers here, tracks, latrines and fence damage everywhere. Only every see ( flat ) hedgehogs in built up areas where they're safe from badgers. You can almost count dead badgers by the mile on the roads at the moment, there are so many.
The lapwings haven't turned up this year although their favourite field is linseed, their favourite crop to nest in.
I wouldn't want to see them wiped out, but until the government accept the need to manage numbers ( beyond BTB cull areas ) we will continue to see a decline in other wildlife.

Same here , most fields would have a set somewhere adjacent to it and some of those sets are large colonies. Ground nesting birds don’t have much chance and rarely see a snake or a hedgehog these days.
