Bale baron

Do any farming forum memebers have experience with these. What sort of hydraulics do you need on a tractor to power them? What size of tractor do they require? I know the bales have to be slightly shorter than normal. The bales of straw I make each year are around 15kg, what weight do they need to be for a baron? Also how much would you buy a 2nd hand one for? What weight is the baron itself? I have an arcusin but in a tricky year I need to be combining and baling and packing and finding competent operators round here is impossible, a baron would cut out a man on the packer(me)

I have run one since 2016. Hydraulics depend on which model you go for. I have a 4245 which uses power beyond so it only uses oil on demand. Older ones use a normal supply and return from a spool but you do need min 120l / min to run one properly. Most people run them on 130-150 hp as the bigger tractors tend to have more hydraulic output. Nick Scrase at Bale Baron UK is the man to speak to.

I've only an opened centred MF which runs at about 60 l/m so that'll be a problem. I'll maybe ring Nick then. Could you let your average workman operate one without much fuss? I have visions of getting one and then having to come off the combine to do it myself 🙄
