bale trailer and axle options

hi,
Looking at getting a extra bale trailer.
presently got 25ft warwick tailers. looking at 32ft to get extra bale on down the bed.

anyone chose rocker axles over sprung these days?
would be minimum of a 12t trailer.

Would you chose a lorry conversion over a purpose made one or does the extra weight outweigh the benefit of a stronger trailer?

anyone got any recommendations of who or who not to go to?

Depends how much you want to spend. You could do a lot worse than a Marshall on 8stud rocking axles. The rolls Royce would be a Stewart at about £11k ish.

Not sure how much cheaper the Marshall would be, might be closer than you think. A tidy new hgv conversion would be 4K?

Marshall be a fair bit cheaper than 11k I would of thought.

I've a Marshall on spring axles and it's been find. Not found it to be unstable at all really.

Haven't looked at the Marshall web site for quite a while but they used to have a trailer configuration section where you could alter wheel and axle specifications etc to suit your needs and it would give you a list price. Depending on the spec you want could make several thousand pounds difference to the price. It's worth having a look at to give you an idea how altering spec alters price.

If you're doing a lot of road work and square bales personally I'd go for triaxle, springs and mini super singles. Solid as a rock just about anywhere.

It will be mainly used for lugging straw hopefully within 5 or so miles.
Been please with our 25ft Warwick over the years. It is on springs and michelin xp27 tyres.
But if we lugging a distance want to get more on.

Did think about lorry conversion but weight empty is putting me off.

Was thinking of having semi floatation tyres on it but it's mainly going to be on straw fields and can sit it in the tramlines,

Want to get a trailer with floats for silage bales. Can see where our bale trailer travels on the grass re growth even this year.

i know where a marshall at the 32ft on rockers is, not sure on the price. Is marshalls paint any better? its a couple of years old.
then i either get a set of wide tyres to go on our bale trailer or keep a eye out for one.

I priced a 28ft Marshall on rockers, 8 stud axle, mini super singles, no back hake in Feb and it was going to be about £8500, ordinary super singles would have been less money.
If you move up to 32ft the cost goes up a fair bit as the chassis rails are heavier than the 25/28ft as it's rated higher.
For 3 high(rounds) I'd go with rockers and sprung drawbar if you are not going faster than 40k. Can't get 10stud commercial axles in rockers so has to be springs, which I think is a legal requirement for 50k work anyway.

We can offer our BC/32 model, which is standard with hydraulic brakes, lights, springs or rocking beam suspension (no cost option), spring drawbar, headboard, galvanized front and rear ladders, the rear ladder is also adjustable, chequered plate floor, rope hooks and ratchet strap points. The trailer would also be air brake ready and flotation tyre ready so it could be upgraded in the future if required.

Options wise we offer a whole range of different axles, wheels and braking systems. It depends on what you are planning to do with the trailer and we can match the spec to it.

Suspension wise we generally sell most of our bale trailers on rockers, they are very stable and wear a lot better now than rockers did ten or fifteen years ago. Springs would be better if you were planning to go long distances on the road.

The trailer itself fabricated using CNC presses and robot welders to create a consistent, quality finish. The trailer is also shot-blasted before being undercoated and glossed.

If you private message me with the specification you require then I can give you a guide price and put you in touch with your local dealer.

Depends how you look after it, but James Stewart is very particular about the quaintly of the paintwork of their products.
I'd say you're right, his paint is very good, however some of the rest have seriously upped their game and are doing better paint than Stewart now.
Up here the roads are covered in salt near all winter and trailers and cattle floats that are used all year get a hard time, it is really hard on running gear.
