I tend to agree I’ve learned through experiance multi function trailers are a ball ache better having one for each job to an extent

Intill MOTs come in then most probably we will see a lot of high spec multi use chassis units. Ther's no way it will be practical or possible for a farmer or contractor to MOT and 6 weekly inspect 10-20 different chassis. Even the artic boys don't have more than say 2 maybe 3 different trailer per unit, less on a wider average I'm sure.

Ours is only held on by 4 ratchet straps so could take off in 5 mins not that we will ever take it off View attachment 892490

Has it got a lip at all to stop it moving? There was a lorry box on a Marshall trailer few yeras ago now not far away that apparently moved nearly a foot offset with aload of cattle on!! Streched and snapped some of the ratchets. Story was that a roundabout was taken slightly too quick but think an angle was welded onto trailer after!!!

Depending on which vosabarsteward stops you, using straps only can be classed illegal but some will agree that the box is your "load" and let it go

Hi all in the middle of making a bale trailer 24ft on twin axels but I also want to double it as a sheep trailer light mesh sides that are completely detachable and ramp also. I don’t want to use a stock box as we only stock sheep and want them as light as possible. Has anyone seen one made up before or done this way or can they show post some pics on how it was done/made as I want to make it as neat as possible..
thanks
Tommy

24 x 8(?) = 192 sq ft.
twin deck Ifor 6'6" x 12' = 156 sq ft.

Just build your bale trailer, buy an old DP120 and have both.

No I don’t think so but it’s a Stewart box that came on a Stewart trailer out of the factory and they have hundreds out so you would hope it would be ok

Can't see it going anywhere with short starps, have seen a lot with straps right over, even some wagons!! A longer starp is obviously going to stretch more. I did some brackets years ago for a customer to fit one, three or four links of chain to go on the rope hook and a plate with a bolt welded on to fasten into another bracket on the box, it was in the days before using rope hooks became dodgy!!

my trailer will be plated as I have a good mate who makes them professionally and he will put his name onto it for safety reasons(provided he approves) We have a Dp120 already for factory and sales obviously but I can assure when your loading lambs or hoggets for the first time you’ll for sure load them on a flat trailer a lot faster while on your own.. the drop down body like Stewart have is appealing it’s just finding the body is a tad tricky.. trailer has a headboard also well will by the weekend I hope.. I could just buy another Ifor I guess but this was to speed up the loading for shorter routes.

Is your mate involved in the livestock element the WATO implications for him if it's road going will be a fair bit to consider

14ft trailer gets it even closer
We have a 22ft stock box with no decks and 12ft trailer for pickup stock box is far nicer to move sheep with no scratting about shoving sheep into decks and far better than been loaded up to max behind motor.

100% agree generally when something is multi functional it is half functional at both jobs rather than very good at either job

I've lifting deck in stock box so it like loading floor twice

Bigger money though, and not enough in the job for me to justify

Our sheep tend to have no problems climbing up themselves, but that's blackies and mules for you. Some of the terminals are a bit slower, I agree, but not too bad on balance.
