Bale trailers, Rigid or turntable?

Looking at a new bale trailer, my current one is 25ft long rigid, and its tight to get in gateways. Now I've always thought a turntable type trailer would be worse as I thought it would cut the corner more, but I've watched some videos on YouTube and it looks like they track to tractor wheels better. Is that correct?

So which would be best to get into tight gateways?

Turntable much better. Turntable with steering axle even better again. I have a 40ft artic with turntable rear axle that follows as well as our 28 ft.

I have been looking for an agri built turntable for a long time as I believe they are the best for stability and getting into tight gateways. Forget these ex commercial trailers. Go and buy a new 3 axle Agri build turntable, ie Richard Western as I think it’s cost will always be able to be recouped after say a ten year ownership period, as the Marston trailers about at the moment the asking price is more than they cost new.

Quite a few firms make turntable trailers as well as dolly type.

A popular type of trailer on the continent.

In answer to the op question, I can get my 20ft turntable in where I can't get a 16ft rigid. To the point I'm now contemplating getting a low loader type turntable trailer built/build for multi use.

Well as you say, RW and AS don't make them any more, don't think any British manufacturers make them now
Do RW not make them? I think they do if you ask. I came upon a pair of Rollands in a shed recently and from a late 80’s vintage and the price paid these had certainly not lost anything, just with all the Brexit hostility I’m finding myself more patriotic hence the RW big up.

Boccasion had an Agri hire turntable trailer in not so long ago. Might still be there. Iirc it does need a new floor in it though.

The problems with the ones above is you don’t get any weight onto the tractor. A proper dolly one transfers some weight. I would much rather have a artic over a long ridget any day having grown up only ever using one. It’s a sure fire way you make me look a prat giving me a rigid trailer I just can never believe how much room you need on them.:bag:

I think that you need a European style hitch, similar to a lorry drag hitch pulling at mid tractor axle height to get full traction.
