Announcement on R4 farming today about a tax coming in April for plastic wrap calling it a packaging tax for silage bales . Because it's not a recycled film . Could be 20% .Great when it's gone up already !
Edit as said 20 p a bale .It was early!

We could always just pass the cost onto the consumer. Oh hang on ....

Alternatively we could con someone into paying us for it like the micro plastic riddled astro turf farmer pay to take away.

Also hundreds of thousands of lawns are being covered in this highly polluting product and nothing is done about it.

As I've said on another thread I'm seriously thinking about not bothering with silage and just using straw and a bit of concentrate.
Spread the sock out over the whole farm and not spread much if any N due to silage ground being free.
If this tax comes true, it may just be the tipping point.
Hmmm.
Straw + maize gluten again.
Rather spend a bit on straw shed and 10t feed bin than have to pay for plastic at both ends.

Also evidence shows higher DM losses as well.
This is exactly why food is packed the way it is to reduce wastage

Dropped a trailer load at recycling place a few days ago and it's going straight to landfill, thought it would have it's own pile but just in with the general waste.

With the likes of sky news going on about plastic waste all the time I'm surprised bale wrap has not been talked about more. Especially since some farmers use the wind to get rid of their wrap...
