Bale wrapper film cutter/catcher

Wondering how the various wrappers catch and cut the film.

Have an old Lawrence Edwards one here which is a pain as the wee jaws are fickle to set up and don't tend to stay accurate for long.

Wanting to change for a newer alternative set up but aware that currently have a closed loop on the bed in that an actuator ram hits the chassis and this closes the jaw.... No positive oil flow to bed.....

Any ideas or inspirations??

It'll be easier to change the wrapper.
It would be possible to upgrade your system but you'll most likely have to buy another wrapper to rob parts off.
Old parmiter would be the easiest to adapt as it's an electric actuator system independent of the hydraulics

Yes wasn't thinking that. You'd the contact slip ring that sits in the middle to feed the power. Same goes for a hydraulic supply.

The Kverneland system is purely mechanical and is driven off the shaft underneath between the centre gearbox and chain drive

How many bales are you doing? For only a couple hundred a year it will be easier to put up with it ,or tie and cut manually,if many more than that there is a one word answer to your problems.McHale, you can pick up an old 991 which will be perfectly reliable for maybe £1500 nowadays, the cut and tie will work perfectly with just a new Stanley blade occasionally.

Those Jaws drive you mad don't they? It's enough to cause premature wear to the door hinges. I had enough, So I cobbled this together. It was in my inventive youth when we were all round bales 15 odd years ago so it's seen some use and It still works.
The question is how much of a bodger are you?

1 Warner electric ram, laid into a piece of angle. A rubber mount off a compressor fixed to a spring loaded pin. Serreted knife clamped in place to cut wrap, once the ram reaches its full hold stroke.
IMG_20171019_151921.jpg

1 roller switch which actuates the ram (to extend) when the table is tipped.
IMG_20171019_152101.jpg
1 momentery switch (to retract it) installed into the turntable operation lever of the cable controls.
IMG_20171019_152218.jpg

As dave w says, you'll need a slip ring to get the power to the table, as it was a test I just used a beacon jack plug and socket mounted inside the slewring. The socket stays still, while the plug turns. I had planned to upgrade it once I knew it would work.. But 9 thousand bales later it still works

there's also a bank of 4 relays which operate the circuits.

Its a lot of work but the cut and hold is faultless and saves a lot of off and on-ing :)

top notch idea, could you not have an "open" switch for when the table is fully down or would the actuator be constantly trying to open?

my wrapper is remote so couldn't do with having to press to open the actuator.

What type of wrapper is it? Trailed/mounted auto/manual?

Now that's like a plan.... The very kind of creation(or bodge) I had been mulling over...... Can see the old machine creating smiles here again.......seeing as it's good ladies machine and jumping in out every bale gets well..... Aye....

It's the trailed manual wrapper supa pac I think?
Thinking about it, I had a troublesome one this year.
There are 4 bolts on a slot that you can adjust the clamping thing with. Basically the linkage wasn't going over centre to lock. I extended the slots another 1/2" and it worked perfect

Have fiddled with that and can get it to grab and snip for a while then it takes a huff again!! When it works it's fine but on a slope with a fair wind the wrap gets blown out and misses jaws etc so looking to upgrade arrangement to something more trouble free.

Biggmw and others, Are you still online? I to have a Lawrence Edwards, trailed wrapper, all automation is in a state of disrepair since before I brought it 300 bales ago. Thinking to pull it out for some winter loving and see if I can get all functions working again. (Now have a bigger tractor with alot more steps to climb.)

What is the consensus on the supa pac film clamp, with a serious birthday will it go good? Or I'm very grateful Mixed Breed has shared their conversation photos......I think the Supa Pac actuators for opening and closing the clamp could drive a very small diameter hydraulic cylinder placed horizontally like the electric actuator pictured previously.

Any tips for getting the machine to lift 1500mm dia baleage off the ground? Want to put arm back on and hopefully with new tractor will have enough oil pressure.

I'm running an LE 8500 round/square wrapper and like you say, the cut/tie can be a fickle thing.
I extended the jaws by 4" to catch wind blown wayward film and a very sharp knife is a must

Thanks, I like this idea. The arm which comes down over the dispenser must become more important in the wind, might make it wider and with a "V" to align film. Also thinking to check the table stoppers don't have excess slack play, and the clamp/cutter are well aligned between dispenser and bale end.
