Bamford s4/ super s4 chopper

Has anybody still got a bamford s4 chopper? We use to find them in the 80s on the back of our Leyland’s but I haven’t seen one in ages they never seem to turn up at sales anymore. We had numerous ones and I found some photos the other day of us chopping with our 285. Has anybody got any photos of them being used? Has anyone still got one parked in a shed somewhere? if you are speaking about precision chop foragers we had the jones version a long time ago. an ok mchine apart from the feed roll bearings which had to be replaced every season. ours blew up after picking up a bit of mower skid. insurance paid out and we sold the remains for spares. used a contractor after that.

I never saw a jones one being honest. But yes they were bamford precision chops ?

Had a Jones, still have a few new shear bars and a sharpening stone. Never liked it.

we only had about 60 acres a year to make so was just ok for that as a s/h buy.

The cylinder in these was a little ahead of it's time. Spiral beveled blades that took a little less power.

But, they came to market as we started using haybobs, they did not like haybob tines.

Spent a very hot summer in 1976 fitting new cylinder assembly's in these things, in the field, where they broke down, Once fitted 9 in a week.

The feed-roller bearings were changed to bronze bushes.

A well set-up machine performed well in it's day. 20 acres on a very good day. 65-75 hp on the front.

Bamford took their eye off the ball and got swept aside by Claas and New Holland.
