Ban on car ownership..

The woman mentioned in the article, Trudy Harrison MP, has been wined and dined abroad (at great expense) by the businesses that would rather you hired one of their pods/ebikes/taxis by the journey/hour instead of owning your own car.

I wonder what bribes & directorships she was promised by those who stand to benefit financially from such an arrangement?

I'm sure it would reduce carbon emissions far more if private car ownership/use was severely restricted in urban areas rather than making people eat less meat.

I think it's a fact that a car journey across London averages out at less than 10 mph.

In reality within a few years time goggle will be operating self-driving taxis that will be in position and ready to take you where you want when you want to go and you wont need to find a car park when you get there .
That wont wont work for everyone by any means but there is no need to ban car ownership as its the convenience of use that will make people take up that new option of car or "transport" use anyway.
That type of use has be seen against current "buying trends" where PCP and the likes is more and more common when in reality you don't own the vehicle anyway and as electric vehicles become more common and the battery condition becomes as big an issue as the bodywork corrosion used to be to a cars viability and longevity people in general will be less likely to want to own a car also.

Must admit that system gives me the creeps but only because of a scene in the series Extant (with Halle Berry) where everyone used self-drive taxis but they were 'programmable' by the 'authorities' and could easily be stalled on a level crossing with all the doors self-locking, should they need to get rid of someone.

When the Government can't even keep a Christmas party secret, I'm not worried about such far fetched scenarios.
