Encourage us to invest in UK sourced energy and food...

Increase tax on non-essentials - new cars, holidays, hot tubs, etc... Have a separate interest rate for housing and consumer credit.... There are/ were options...
Is it just me or are the numbers of aircraft in the skies insane atm.Holliday madness!

From this week’s Money Week;

"Right now, the real interest rate is -6%, and soon it is going to hit -9%, historically an extraordinarily low figure. This is uncharted territory. No major developed economy has ever seen real rates as deep into negative territory as that."

Welcome to the "new normal". What a shower of sh1te the world’s leaders have become. Official policy in every developed country is now "leave it to the next guy to clear up our sh1t".

Are we watching a dethroning? Is Cash no longer King..... Right now the only thing worse than having no savings seems to be having savings :bag:

Surely there is a golden opportunity for ukraine to export grain west into Europe given that odessa is blocked. Given its the west thats providing help to ukraine why should they export to China anyway who are putins best chums?

Yes, but the gauge of railway track is not compatible yet.

I am just going to barter with wheat, holding it in the shed until one needs to buy something seems to give better value than cashing it in!
Get yerself a little flour mill and you won't ever starve.

Edit, and it will be cheaper than buying the loaf of bread my Mrs bought from the supermarket yesterday for £2800 a tonne.

They have been trying to do away with us using cash for years. Covid has accelerated it as we’ve all used cards instead of cash. Cashless society gives them even more control over us to continue this absurd monetary experiment and our descent into madness.

From an inflationary devaluation perspective cash is still cash even when held digitally.... I really hate the use of the bogy man terms "them" or "they" in a conspiratorial fashion. I am not denying such outcomes are occurring but I do not believe such change is being intentionally driven by a select few individuals who somehow sit outside of the system of controls they are trying to impose. We are all "they" to somebody. Is todays "monetary experiment" really far different from the invention of money?

Aren't "they" sitting under a volcano somewhere stroking a white cat?

I've spent a bit of money this year installing changeover switches to the house and buildings. I've put in a diesel tank, I've doubled the size of the oil tank. None of this offers complete self reliance, but it does give me a little bit more control over when, where and who I buy energy from and offers the ability to ride out spikes in prices. I've priced up solar and battery bank to cover most of our electricity needs which will ensure I can switch off mains 90% of the time. That will be next year's project.

If I'd caught myself doing this a few years ago, I'd have considered myself a mad prepper worthy only of a snide chuckle. Now I think at the very least its prudent, plus it should also save money over the the long term.

It is not the government's job to look after you and protect you from every inflationary pressure. My approach may not solve all of the societal ills but may just mean my family will be warm and light if Vlad hacks the smart meters, MBS turns off the oil pipes or BP decide they want to double their profits again.
