The problem with Stagflation (inflation in an environment of stagnant growth) is that monetary policy cannot solve both inflation and recession at the same time. Some might say that statistics are showing we are in a tight labour market, so it can't be stagflation! One solution would be returning to a manufacturing economy (supply side economics in a deregulated environment with lower bureaucracy - but I can't see the snouts in the trough going for that regardless of them calling themselves free-marketeers"). When the unproductive labour in the service economy is added to the volume of people that don't want to work, we end up with the equivalent economic problem of high unemployment, this stagflation, and nothing Andrew Bailey is doing is going to cure it.

I think we need a massive investment program on roads, rail and nuclear power personally. Ditch burning gas and just import heating gas from Norway.

Just watched channel 4 news in Sri Lanka. Visited a farmer whose beans and bananas are a failure because of no fertiliser. Country were made to go organic but that was not mentioned once and it's all the high price of fertiliser that is to blame. Unbelievable how the media can twist a story to suit there agenda!

Why? That last metre grows feck all of any value.

For some Farmers, it's the principle of the thing.

The blokes that plough to a metre from the hedge, then roundup the last metre.... I used to see this on a farm I know!

I still remember in the mid 80s in I think either Mysore or Bangalore, going to a restaraunt that served what was in effect BBQ'd beef, run by Moslems for a small clientele. After 3 weeks of some less than delightful food in many instances, a beer and a steak and salad was like heaven!!

The beef was good and you could see all the cuts in glass fronted fridges. It was from farmed cattle, NOT diseased, unhealthy "sacred" cattle. I am still alive so all good, and unlike a couple of other meals I had there, no funny tummy afterwards
