how are people getting on, paying in cheques?
i have received a a four figure cheque , for my company.
i do not have a card for this account as all other banking is done on line.
it is over the £500 telephone app.
with the shut down of counter staff I am stumped.
have tried ring ing bank for advice, only to be told phone lines have a several hour queue and please only use for emergency.
Tried twitter but just get I guess, automated responses
The bank is Barclays
would pay it in at PO but they require a payslip and the banks own envelope

pay my cheq's in on line won't help on large sums though

Post office should have envelopes for banks and I’ve just put hand note or my bank details on the back of the cheque before.
Whoever opens the envelope will find it easier to process it rather than write a letter and return it.

Barclays cheque books have some paying in slips at the back. Or you could ring them and request a paying in book, which is just paying in slips. The PO have the envelopes as mentioned, job done. My post office always give me a few envelopes to keep in stock, they're very helpful.

nearest branch is 13 miles away, so bit of a trek, but we do not get the cheques we used to. It is only market cheques now, I know they like to 'hang on' to the money for a week, or so, but I've even suggested a 10 day 'hold', and then bacs, but no. So for us, the po, or for very small, the po van in the village. Just a pain.

I bank with Lloyds, according to their website they are open daily from 10am-2pm. I have a cheque to pay in and intend to go into town tomorrow,
where they have an automated pay-in machine, which i have used it before, so i will be able to feed the cheque into that, and be able to keep to the 2metre rule. Suggest you check the Barclays website.

My local Barclays is open and I have paid cheques in recently at the counter and on the machine. Shorter hours though, 9.30 until 2.

Next town along has the machine outside like a cash point which will be handy out of hours. Guess you'd need a card to use one though, you may as well get one?

I've paid business cheques into the machine in my Halifax branch with no card. There was a 'no card' (or similar) button and you used the account number and sort code. Bloke at the desk who helped me was amazed that I knew them from memory!!

it’s about time cheques became history - i’ve run a business for 6 years without even having a cheque book, there is absolutely no need for them these days

Get them frequently here - have four to pay in at the moment. Lots of my elderly customers don’t have internet for banking, and I don’t want a card machine - how else would I be able to feed the nation?
