Barking dogs

The new H untaway pup is irritating neighbours as he barks quite often in night according to what I am told. pretty much silent all day. Usually barks intermittently towards nightfall and from as early as 4 am at this time of year. Understandably neighbours, 300+ meters away have Windows open in this heat. Has anyone come up with a good sound absorbing solution to cut the decibels and stop noise travelling particularly on still nights. Need to clear out some foxes which probably start him off but also looking for longer term solution.

We had a pet collie years ago that would bark when left alone, or at the sight of a bird. Had a collar with a high pitches noise only it could hear. Triggered by the barking. It helped a lot. Meant we could leave her in the garden rather than the house.

Huntaways are bred to bark, they are also easy to stop barking, you need to put a command on it and one for stop, I use speak and quiet. You just gotta put the time into it but they pick it up pretty quick

I wondered about that. Some breeds just won't learn to stop barking, others are quite easy to train. I've no experience of huntaways. Water pistol: "Be quiet", synchronised with a squirt.;) Worked with pointers, German shepherds, etc. but nothing would shut English setters up!

No, get them to bark at something then put a command on that then there not randomly barking them when there barking grab there attention so they stop then command that, then there focus will stay plus their tough as so a water pistol wouldn’t bother them

One of my collies is a bugger for it too, usually responding to a neighbour’s Welsh Sheepdogs just up the valley.:banghead:

One of those utrasonic bark deterrents (mains laid on to kennels now as it eats batteries!) has reduced it significantly, but not completely. When she barks now a holler from the house stops her, assuming it was loud enough to wake me from a deep sleep of course....

Lead injection usually stops them barking (y)

On a serious note dads a Hunterway and a collie at farm and the Hunter way never stops bloody barking, right annoying little thing it is, then that sets the collie off and they both do it. I’ve a German shepherd and he’s proper useless and wouldn’t even bark if someone was breaking in

My terriers are a pain at the moment as we have a fox about trying to dig up their mate who died a couple of months ago, they bark like mad !

Problem is it's around 2:30, and my day scope cannot see it !

Put a roof on the kennel. But a solid wall between the kennel and the neighbours. Get some battery powered anti bark collars from eBay.

I would agree with you that it's a fox starting them off my hunt aways are just the same I can always tell if one is about the kennels. At the end of the day all dogs no matter what the breed All hate foxes !

You keep your dogs so far away you cant hear them barking?? You arent going to be able to train this unless you bring them home. Then "pack it in" yelled out the bedroom window works for me!

This problem comes up quite a lot, so I did a search. Sound deadening might help. I used to control pigeons in very large grain stores. Empty, the sounds reverberated around the sheds and could be painful. Half full of grain and the sounds were muffled. Quite impressive.

Sound deadening does work but it needs to be tuned to the sounds. Probably need to experiment. I liked the idea of a carpet wall (try your local recycling centre), also boxes filled with sound deadening material with open ends facing the dogs. A wall of small bales?
