Barley and Defy

Is it as wet in the far part of the field where the crop looks better? Was it wet like that for a period after it had the Crystal?

Rest of the fields are dryer , one in the distance over hedge is barley as well , stayed dry really for 3 weeks after the application ,

Close up pic of plants would help. Looks bleached but not yellowed to badly. Looking at those rates I’d say it should be ok unless plants are under particular stress for another reason as well. Good hit of early N and pray for an early spring to get it tillering if it survives.

sh!t. I’m sorry. Have you showed your agronomist? I’m not normally of this attitude but do you think you have a claim against agronomist or manufacturer? Assuming you followed instructions to letter? You are going to be well out of pocket.

NOt insured , they now think there could be a residue of another chemical in the sprayer tank ???
What had you used previously? Lexus or Atlantis? A neighbour of mine claims to have killed some barley after autumn Atlantis then putting liquid N on barley in the spring..... l doubt it’s residue. Is the worst field the first you sprayed?

Bugger. Worth collecting tissue samples for an assay to see if there is a rogue chemical involved??

Stony looking soil so chemical went down to the seed too readily?

I think the weather has worked against the crop this time, it has had a covering of snow and minging wet plus cold for several weeks?

Residue can often be in lines or tank and some of newer chemicals are rather efficient tank cleaners
I find the first tank of falcon checks the osr no matter how good a job I do
Hence don’t spray the first by the toad

I've never tried Defy post-em on barley but it is on the label after all. As others have said, can you check your spray records for what you may have had in the tank previously?

I would be tempted to at the very least speak to your local BASF and Syngenta reps, explain the situation and ask them to come and have a look. If you aren't sure who they are, your agronomist should know and be able to get in touch with them. However, manufacturers are quite good at putting every warning/restriction under the sun onto product labels...Crystal label for example "Do not use on stoney or gravelly soils".
