barley beef need some advice

180-220 kg ish , just weigh the wagon load , goin out between 500- 580 kg live , they vary a lot

I thought that beutilar wanted only wanted them from 450kg up, minimum 220kg dead? Yours are probably near to 250 -270kg dead.

How much feed do they eat to get to 500kg, and how long does it take from when they enter the farm until they are off?

On farm 7 months ish , they will eat near 2 ton if you want them do well. Like I say there’s not a lot in it if anything ,

Have been looking into it here , but i would have to buy in all of the feed and the straw. Enough calves to be had locally and already have sheds .

Wales ? Cost you £20 plus to get them to slaughter as well, if calves cheap enough thou go for it

Yes west Wales. Straw is around £65/t here this year, £115/t last year. Was thinking of feeding them a blend rather than just barley as hoping to get a better conversion of feed.

Only thing with bulls I find they want plenty bedding , caked up in muck waste time

Yep hard feed , best blend we fed was Berrystock bull beef finisher , they flew on that but they could just eat it

Third time I’ve heard berrystock feed quoted on here positively, never heard of them. Any idea what the ingredient list was for the blend?

Confectionary byproduct/waste, pot ale, maize and other stuff. I have used them on and off for nearly 30years, cracking feed but they do eat it.
Last year 700kg Charolais bullocks were eating 18-20kg a day @ 18p/kg. They were doing 2-2.5kg a day but on a falling beef trade it hurt.

7 months on farm they’d need to be eating 10 kilos a day every day...what age are you killing them at

Not be far off. DMI ~ 2.5%of live weight. So in at 200kg eating 5kg/d out in 210days at 550kg eating 13.75kg/d that’s an average of 9.7kg/d by my maths and a DLWG of 1.67kg. I don’t think that will be far out.

Takes a big bullock to eat almost 14 kilos of hard feed a day

Holsteins will eat 5/10% more than a beef bred one they are bred to eat large quantities to turn into large quantities of milk there sisters are anyway

Our limmi bulls never get over 9kg and as they get real big, 800kg region, they eat less!

Bulls do eat less than bullocks as they convert it better
