Barley harvest started.

Barley harvest well under way around the east coast, Grain fill is varying big time seen some very shivered barley heads and other doing average to better, Straw bales are doing €20 now and price will only go up, Talk of €200 minimum price from Grain merchants we shall see. Rain coming tonight it will bring on the spring sown crops.

Price has eased back to £142. According to my merchant it's because everyone is getting better yields than expected and needing to move some.
 
Started on mine. Tower has yielded great - maybe 3.5t acre based on trailer loads and a decent looking mound of straw so not bad for a second cereal.

It had what i call a perfect winter barley year from march ie cold spring and only 1 litre of Fandango for the year and sunshine.

Ive got no desire to move from a good 2 row to something more expensive to grow
