Barn door on a grain trailer

Might be about to convert a bulk tipper into a tractor drawn grain trailer. It has barn doors. I was wondering are these gonna be a death trap when tipping at harvest? I could fit a large grain shoot to take some pressure off before opening the door. I've enough room to open the doors back. Anybody else have experience with barn doors on grain trailers?

Sounds a little iffy standing behind, anyway of strengthening the doors and have opening bottoms like normal standing at the side, heard of several near bad accidents, used to help out a neighbour when carting from afar, there father used to tip at the farm, all our machinery was well looked after, luckily was standing at the side and let door go the top corner of the door sort of hooked on by a U to the buck, it snapped off then swept away pinged the other side off and bang, repaired by the next day with a bit better idea of proper hinge and pin, and can see why it failed, trailer sides not having any supports across pushing outwards stress flexing the 5/8 inch door hooks.

The trailer has two half barn doors with 4 large hinges on each door. I don't think the back door could be easily converted to open from the sides and top. I've seen barn doors that open both ways like a conventional trailer door. I think maybe fit a large grain shoot on one door to take the pressure off or a grain shoot on each door

Barn doors are dangerous and a pain

The trailer's being converted and the guy doing it said he could find a 2nd hand normal bulk door and fit it. Maybe I should do that. Want to find some feed back to see if barn doors are as bad as I'd imagine

They restrict you in several ways, unless they can be made strongly enough to stay closed and have openings at the bottom worked from the side, Going for a proper grain door would is the way to go.

At least with manual opening tailgates you can stand to the side to avoid getting a smack from the door. Barn doors open directly into your face not to mention filling your boots or the tide of grain sweeping you off your feet. You often need to clip them back to the body sides to avoid them catching the floor when tipping. Having used them for harvest on my sandwich year I’ve had no desire to go back to them again.

At the very least barn doors should be made to be openable by standing at the side/corner of the trailer so you are not directly behind.
