big into tax avoidance estate was reportedly offshored when Maggie gave the wealthy a window in which to offshore tax free.
All the land destined for housing is registered to Bathurts Trust PTC Ltd in Bermuda (1800ac according to Private Eye). Zero Capital Gains to be paid
Bathurst Development Ltd was the lot that applied for the housing, with Richard Tice (him of Brexit party) in the fold, plenty of charges by Coutts and Co.
He was head of the Conservative Assoc until he put his planning app in when he resigned..... The Bull Club is another area of contention locally

I did worshipful company with the manager, fantastic chap and a good friend. Very passionate. A lovely place from what I’ve seen on my visit.
the stuff about houses, who cares, I know very few farmers who would ignore that opportunity and don’t begrudge anyone who does it, fair play.

I was at College with the Earl and he did a wonderful guided tour of the estate a few years ago as a reunion for those student contemporaries from Wye back in the late 70s and early 80's. This opened my eyes to some of the troubles a landed estate has compared with mere owner occupiers and tenants like me.

With the current tax regime I would think that I would be buying back tenancies if I had any. The Estate also owns a great deal of the town if I recall including the College which the current Earl didn't attend as his father wanted him to go elsewhere.

Yes, I wish that I was as hard up as him! (that’s what I tell my similarly landed landlord).
But your right, it’s not all easy.

I dont begrudge him/them for doing it but I do have feelings for the local town which will almost double in size without the infrastructure, a shame really, Cirencester will never be the same again, wrecked by greed.

Googling him I found this which reinforces that opinion.

Farming simulator. For adults. Very nice, but where's the soul ? Where's the straw chewing yokel ? Where's the barn owl spitting it's pellets onto the bonnet of the Davy Broon ? Where are the stone out buildings ? Where's the nettle patch with the 1970's direct drill ? Where's the Howard Rotaspreader ? where's the well used wheel barrow ? Where are the hens scratching in the yard ? I don't know. I just don't know. Sigh.

Yes, big outfit. Not flavor of the month to most after they put in for 2,500 houses that'll decimate what was a once lovely market town. A lot of tenanted farms been taken back in hand, assuming tenancy's been bought out (3 gen tenancy) Kemble was bought (ironic as his father sold that lot off years ago)
They're a bit Marmite really, you either like them or you dont.
They do have some nice toys and pretty much keep Lister Wilder going but then a lot of acres to cover.
Does that mean they have put in a big order of Kubota's?

My 2nd year at RAC (Yes, it was and still is with a "C" IMO!) in 78/79, I and 3 other blokes rented one of a block of 4 cottages in Kemble. But IIRC they we owned by an Hon. Biddulph.
We were into Home brewing at the time and decided to have a housewarming party. Plenty of Homebrew and the strongest Punch anybody has ever made!
This was the time when Punk Rock was getting going along with a dance called the Pogo.
Somebody puts on the Sex Pistols and everybody is pogoing to see if they could reach the ceiling.
Some twit not only did this but punched a hole right through it!
Eventually the party ended at some ungodly hour and the house was quiet (ish, but for the groaning!)
There were bodies all over the place in various states of dress, or undress (hence the groaning -mostly female)!
There was empty/half empty booze cans and cups all over the place too and the house looked a wreck.

About 9, the following morning (a Sunday) one of the next door neighbours came round to say the Honorable was on his way over to introduce himself and meet us. We told that neighbour to Foxtrot Oscar, thinking he was pulling our legs. At 10 o'clock, he came back to say he really wasn't joking!

You have never seen a house get tidied up so fast in all your life! The surplus guests (mostly women!) were packed off down the pub as the tenancy was strictly for 4 blokes only and no pets/women!

The only problem was that hole in the ceiling.
We had heard the the Honourable was quite a short chap. Fortunately, 1 of the 4 of us, a Scottish bloke called Big John, was well over 6 feet tall.
His instructions were that wherever the Honourable went, he kept between him and the whole in the ceiling.
It worked!

On top of which we were commended for how tidy the house looked! Smelled a bit funny though!!!!

The next week, we bought some polyfilla, stood the Super-sir bottled gas heater under the hole, then a bit of 4x2 wood, on top of which we jammed some Farmers Weekly mags to hold the goo up until it dried and hardened.
Unfortunately, one of the FW front covers stuck to it and was reluctant to let go. Eventually we got enough of it off to paint it white - with tooth paste. Job's a good'n!

If you have ever seen a film called Animal House, that is exactly what it was like when I was a student!
