Battery storage

I'm all for renewable energy but we shouldn't turn our back totally on a reliable power source such as coal, gas or even nuclear.
Back up plans are a good thing.
Not a problem to have gas turbine peakers as backup. No running costs when idle and instant startup.
As against coal and nuclear. Like solar and wind they are also infinitely scalable.

If you are looking for funding I may be able to help as last week I was talking with a funder in the renewables sector about one of our projects and he asked me if we had any other projects which need funding, which we don't. Happy to facilitate an introduction.
Were not at that stage yet but interesting to know that folk are keen to fund such projects.
Got a couple of agents with experience in the field giving me a bell tomorrow.
It will probably come to nowt but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Good luck with the agents. The contacts I have are direct, no agents or middle percentages.

Hi chaps
As above I’ve been approached by a company saying that we have suitable ground for a electricity battery storage facility .
Offering good money index linked over 30 years 5 acres required.
They want me to sign a letter of Authority to give them permission to negotiate with the power company.
Must admit I’m greener than Kermit the frog when it comes to renewables any advice greatly appreciated.
thanks
Jed
We are nearly at the point of signing an option agreement with a company wanting to take 4 acres to site a 50mw battery storage facility on some of our away land. We have taken every step in conjunction with our ag solicitor and have enlisted a land agent who has had considerable experience in the renewable sector.
Its been quite a long process and is only the first step on quite a long road.
If you want to pm me I would be happy to let you know what deal we have agreed.

A decent renewable firm will pay your reasonable surveyors and legal fees. shameless plug - my wife is a really keen renewable developer with a pipeline of battery storage sites she hopes to get funding for to build out one day , there does seem to be some movement in this industry now and she is looking for more sites - if anyone has land close to substation she will be interested, fees paid !
How close to a substation do you need to be?

How close to a substation do you need to be?

depends on the size and method to get to sub. A hard dig through roads is a lot more pricey than a soft dig through farm land / verges.

easements can be expensive but usually multiple routes to pick from.

dont assume that a substation close by is a) big enough to start with and b) has capacity even if it is.

then the DNS can change their mind, recently offered a connection very close by which they then moved to a lot further away. Luckily the budget can cover it but for some it will kill things dead.

I’d advise you get a good Land Agent ASAP
And make the company pay your Land Agent and solicitors feed
If they won’t pay your fee don’t deal with them
And if you sign anything make sure there is a Long Stop date
Ie don’t sign an exclusivity agreement without a Long Stop of 1-2 years. Otherwise you will have given away exclusivity in perpetuity

Might want to add in a percentage of the rental money while they try to achieve a deal on their end. Your holding the playing card they want, and aren’t going to be able to negotiate a deal with any other company Potentially loosing money if they are incompetent in their endeavours.

What site clearance clauses are people comfortable with regarding battery storage sites ?
We are looking at a 48mw 4 acre site and operator has suggested a £5k/year bond payable annually to cover site reparation after the 25/30 yr term is expired.
Is this standard ?

Doesn't sound a lot in some ways. Needs to be index linked and put in an interest earning escrow account? 40 years. Compound interest is a winner in some ways.. This calculator is in dollars but does a nice job. £330K after 40 years @ 3%, 540 @ 5%

I might be asking the same question...

Solar is slightly different, in that is the Planners agree, the PV site can stay in production afterwards... Will battery still be needed??

Anyone seen a battery after20 years the cost of cleanup is going to be phenomenal and heaven forbid their is a fire. You the landlord will see very quickly how good a limited company is at protecting the shareholders and leaving the owner to pick up the pieces
