We have an exciting opportunity for a Farm Technician who will report to the Farm Manager at our Field Stations in Little Shelford and Great Chishill. Our field stations provide support to the global Agronomic Development programme and EU zonal development programme for our products. Bayer CropScience Ltd owns two Field Stations, which require particular agronomic practices in order to facilitate effective Field Trials and residue work to GEP or GLP standards. The field station team also provides drilling and harvesting support to regionally based agronomists.

In this role you would have the following responsibilities:

  1. Supporting the Farm Manager and Senior Farm Technician in providing suitable crops and facilities for Field Trials work on Bayer CropScience Ltd Field Stations.
  2. Supporting the Farm Manager in achieving the Field Stations objectives.
  3. Providing agronomic and mechanical resource and support for the Agronomists, on the field stations and in the regions.
Key Accountabilities

  1. To perform all tasks and operations on the field stations, as directed by the Farm Manager or Senior Farm Technician.
  2. To participate actively with the Farm Manager to identify training requirements and record training received, in order to enable the company to maintain a workforce with skills and knowledge appropriate to the business objectives.
  3. To promote, audit and enforce, throughout all aspects of the job holders influence, the Company’s quality and loss control policy in order to secure the health and safety of the workforce, protection of the environment and local community, and compliance with the law.
  4. To assist in the trials programme by providing expertise in the operation of agricultural machinery and specialist trials equipment in a precise and accurate manner.
  5. To provide specific services to the team of Agronomists, to include:-
  6. Management of irrigation equipment.
  7. Spraying and fertiliser applications on the Field Stations.
  8. Drilling and harvesting operations in regional areas and on the Field Stations.
The successful candidate will need:

  1. Sound understanding and knowledge, (minimum 2 years’ practical experience), of UK agronomic practises.
  2. To be self-motivated and able to communicate effectively both internally and externally.
  3. B + E licence for towing trailers desirable but not essential.
  4. NPTC PA1, PA2 and PA6 desirable but not essential as training will be given.
  5. Rough terrain telehandler certificate desirable but not essential.
