Chris, the vast majority of those shares can be attributed to the fact you attached a vaguely humorous picture to the post. If you had left that out nobody would have paid it the slightest attention let alone shared it.

Exactly. They are happy to share a post, but we need people to make a complaint. Takes a bit more effort I’ll admit. But together we can make a difference.

I complained prior to reading this thread.I particularly mentioned the Climate change report but also other news items which are heavily politicised with their own agendas.I mentioned their news programmes should provide unbiased reporting and not to influence their audience. I also mentioned how rude some of their reporters are when conducting interviews where it seems normal to constantly interrupt, belittle and be generally hostile.
I don't expect this complaint will make any difference but feel a lot better having submitted it.

Farmers - who are regarded first and foremost by the general public as being subsidized by the taxpayer - complaining about a fellow recipient of taxpayer support. That's going to go down really well with Joe Public.

Forget it. Just focus on doing what the industry has patently failed to do to date and start giving the BBC the other side of the story in such as persuasive manner that they have no choice but report it.

Did anyone else listen to BBC Radio 4 Any Answers?

It was half an hour that gave four of its callers (think there were 7 all told) very fair opportunity to talk calmly and informatively about the positive means by which livestock farming and strategic crop growing methods are already being part of the solution to global warming. One was an active farmer, the next didn't say his occupation, but had a good grasp of grassland's carbon sequestering capabilities. A third was informative about the damage done to rainforest soils by growing soya. Another caller who was talking about grass fed beef production was on a faulty phone line, unfortunately, and couldn't finish his contribution.

The other callers were two vegan converts, who had no science behind their contributions (I'm positive I've heard one of them before), and a lady who didn't know the difference between ruminants and non-ruminants. She appeared to conflate the two, although I did find her hard to follow. They were given fair time to make their points.

The presenter treated each with the same respect, and asked pertinent questions of all.

Why oh why can't the media manage that sort of quality as standard?

Likewise Farming today this morning had a couple of chaps on talking about how they use social media to promote their farming business. No bias there. I was on local BBC radio earlier in the week talking about livestock farming. No bias there.

There is no point complaining about Roger Harrabin to his bosses. Rather he needs grabbing by the short and curlies by the NFU and having the truth rammed down his throat. ie the NFU doing their job properly. Complain about him to his bosses and they will just form a circle and back their man. You have to get hold of the man himself.

Minette Batters has been doing exactly that via twitter.

What, engaging with Roger Harrabin ? I haven't seen it, but I would say that doing it via the very public medium of Twitter isn't going to win anyone over, quite the contrary.
Why the hell are the NFU not using all the resources their disposal to meet with the man and educate him ?

Well I named and shamed him to his employers. He must understand how wrong he is, and start listening to scientific proofs.

Absolutely. But he will only be given those truths by us, as everyone else has a vested interest in feeding him lies.

And he will only take those truths on board if they are given to him in a manner in which we maintain the moral high ground and he maintains his dignity. Slag him off to his bosses and on Twitter and he will not listen.

I tried to be civilised. I think he'd most definitely stand upon his dignity.

Has no one ever heard the saying "Don't shoot the messenger"?

As I said earlier, the Beeb are just reporting what they've been told, farming needs to get it's act together and be proactive in presenting their side of the story to the media, who will then report it. The modern journalist isn't going to go looking for pro farming news to report, do you think Huw Edwards is going to knock on your door and ask "anything you want on the News tonight mate?"

If you want the Beeb to report a pro farming news story, give them one! Tell them what it is, why it's of interest to the general public, be available whenever they want to interview you and give them lots of photo opportunities!

To look at agtwitter today it would appear you don't need to complain to the BBC, what you need to do is get on Twitter and solemnly post a selfie video telling your followers how much you disagree with the BBCs reporting whilst at the same time how excited you are about meeting the challenges of net zero by 2040 etc.

That way you can boost your media profile whilst appearing to be very much doing a public service.

Personally I think the climate change emergency rhetoric is complete nonsense, a political scam cooked up to enable politicians to raise taxes and virtue signal, i'm sure if I posted a video about that I could expect emerging leaders and FW columnists to que up to lecture me over my wrongthink.

Farmers would be well advised to avoid any bandwagon jumping in my view. Sustainable and regenerative ag stands on its own economic merits, the environmental benefits are a happy and welcome side effect.

The IPCC report didn't blame red meat though? So they've read the report and turned that into headline as there interpretation.

They did say eating a more balanced diet would benefit environment.

rubbish. Of course it’s not pointless complaining.
And it only takes a few minutes to do. There’s nothing to lose.

I agree. They do take notice. Always complain, or rather offer "constructive criticism". If no one ever complained, things would never change, let alone be improved.

An old regular army colonel once told me the way to get change is to ask questions. And keep asking them until you get answers. He was right.
