BCMS issues with calf born to a youngster

I registered a calf on the phone because the heifer who gave birth was 1 year old - Jersey. We had no idea of this until we saw the calf. Sweet calf all is well. I understand this isnt uncommon were taken aback that the bull did this.

The calf was registered on the phone obv because the the electronic system wouldnt give options. All was well.

I then got an amber alert on this which I filled out and sent. They have this.

I have a letter from them stating "as these problems have not been resolved.....I assume you no longer wish to proceed with the application".

I never received a letter from them in April with the query - no doubt with CV the postal went wrong somewhere I cant help that. I could of had an email they have my address?

I now have to send the calving record of this dam. Explain that so I the book I write in? Makes no sense to me there is no real record. We keep a list on the fridge door. As the calves are tagged daily the notes are put on there. I then register with BCMS. I keep the paper in the folder with any notes. No one on any inspection has mentioned I need to keep a calving record. I then run off the record from bcms after the 2 months and stick it in the book. How is that any different. I have had endless inspections from LA, SA, WAG etc no one has queried this. So I have to copy the list into the book then and send a copy.

What a performance. How come no one has picked this up before? So on the list daily on the sheet, I also need to transfer that into the cow movement book and then go on BCMS then?

You are supposed to keep your own register, not just print off the BCMS one. Either a computer programme or a book or other manual record with ear tag, DOB, sex, breed and dam's eartag. If the paper in your folder has that info on and you've kept it, then that is fine. Your record comes first, and BCMS data should then be a copy of your record, not the other way round.

Had 12 month heifer calve here also, shorthorn heifer, could of genuinely only been 3 months when served by its own sire, not the age that’s a surprise but the fact the heifer could stand the weight of the bull, vet said it’s easily done age wise
