Counter balanced by an email from AHDB that has just popped in to my box:

Driving a positive rethink of dairy for consumers
Consumers are rethinking their attitudes towards dairy and red meat produced in Britain as a result of our recent 'We Eat Balanced' marketing campaign.

The £1.5M campaign ran during January and February and targeted dairy and meat 'waverers.’ It reminded and reassured them of the role red meat and dairy plays in a balanced diet, as well as the sustainability of livestock production in Britain.

We commissioned two independent surveys of consumers who were considering reducing or consciously reducing dairy consumption – one survey before and one after the activity. The results showed that after the campaign:
  • 13% fewer people intended to cut back on dairy
  • 9% more shoppers are reassured on dairy nutrition
  • 3% more people intended to buy dairy
  • 4% more people believed dairy is produced naturally
Dairy strategy director Paul Flanagan said: “The results are a great outcome and show consumers want reassurance about food choices and permission to eat what they enjoy as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

“Many thanks to everyone across the dairy sector who got behind the campaign. The results will feed into the planning for our next reputation campaign, launching later this year.”
The campaign focused on three key messages – red meat and dairy as a source of Vitamin B12, Britain’s world class production standards and that red meat and dairy from Britain is amongst the most sustainable in the world.

Over the course of seven weeks, We Eat Balanced was shown 80 million times on social media, reaching ten million consumers. It also reached six million people in the press and was viewed 2.5 million times on video on demand.

The campaign also showed a shift in consumer attitudes around the sustainability of red meat produced in Britain versus imported product. When prompted, there was a 9% positive shift in target audience consumers believing that home-produced red meat was produced in a more sustainable way compared to red meat from overseas.

I think this is aimed at 'insiders' eg farm employees, vet students, contractors, disgruntled ex-staff etc. Firstly the use of the term 'whistleblower' which is usually used for someone reporting wrongdoing from inside an industry or organisation. Secondly, the nature of the list - 'untreated mastitis', 'untreated lameness' , 'mistreatment during AI' - these are things that really only someone working on a farm would know. Hopefully most of us can look at the list with a clear conscious although some is a bit subjective ... eg  'verbal abuse'...

We all try and prevent but has no one ever had a case of milk fever/staggers?
has no one had a cow crap upon by another anywhere?
has no one had a cow come in with mastitis that they didn't know about at the previous milking and is therefore untreated?

I once got a bollocking from my boss because I employed a man who used to be a trade union shop steward.

After he finished his rant, I asked what he thought the guy would find to complain about

"Well. nothing really as we're not doing anything we shouldn't"

Same applies in this case, I think.

Didn't post it to give them oxygen but merely to raise awareness (again) that we are being watched.

99.9pc will have no issues

The only trouble is that a video of a cow walking through mud; a cow mooing for her calf; a picture of AI'ing; a thin cow; a cow off her feet etc, etc, can be edited very well to make you look like a terrible farmer.

These Organisations don't want to show the truth, just a false story that gullible city snowflakes believe.

Using the term ‘ gullible city snowflakes ‘ sets us all on the back foot as we try and inform people of what is actually happening on farm so they don’t believe the hysteria of these types of groups.

People will believe anything, however implausible. Just look at Trump and Johnson blatant lies over the last few years yet both still have a large following that will not acknowledge any such thing. Anti-vaxxers, 5G fanatics and flat-earthers ditto. So if peta puts the idea into people's heads then a significant number will believe them rather than the truth.

Same with their request to report abuses during AI - what they mean is the thought police and the nutters equating AI with rape

I think when they start using emotive language like that, it really exposed the dearth of substance to their claims and they have to invoke an emotional response to attract support.

Verbal abuse?
I have been known to be rude to a cow.
Strangely it didn't seem bothered.

When I was out in France I was yelling ‘Go!!’ at the cows. I couldn’t understand how they just turned round at looked at me nonchalantly.

Luckily I did GCSE French and shouted “Aller!!”

They moved off, then I added ‘Vache’. Then I wondered for hours later about the whole verb before description thing in French and was I saying “Go cow” or Cow Go” ?

Anyway. They preferred it.

Red Tractor have a snitching hotline as well believe it or not 🙈
I think if red tractor is to work it needs all farmers to take ownership. As an industry we are tarred with the same brush as our worst offender.
I'm proud to tell the RT inspector that absolutely nothing has been done to prepare for his visit this is how he will find the farm 365 days a year. I know that is not the case in lots of farms but it should be.
That farm the other side of the village that crosses the cows over the road and has 10 lame cows at the back as the mum's return from the school run will be the reason the standards are tightening for all of us because his farm will only pass RT for 5 days out of 18 months.
