I think if red tractor is to work it needs all farmers to take ownership. As an industry we are tarred with the same brush as our worst offender.
I'm proud to tell the RT inspector that absolutely nothing has been done to prepare for his visit this is how he will find the farm 365 days a year. I know that is not the case in lots of farms but it should be.
That farm the other side of the village that crosses the cows over the road and has 10 lame cows at the back as the mum's return from the school run will be the reason the standards are tightening for all of us because his farm will only pass RT for 5 days out of 18 months.

My actual farm,farming and animal welfare would pass 365. Some of the pointless paperwork is a different matter.

I've said before if you only get concerned about overreach when it gets to you. It's already too late.

My post was more about finding it funny that Red Tractor and the vegan extreme seem to have similar ideals.

our neighbours cows cross the road, in the village, they also rely on public perception to sell a product, the last 12/15, would not cross our road, if they were ours, they would have gone, a long time prior. We have had 'problems' caused by a loony vegan, so are very careful, but those cows simply should not be there, and i am totally suprised someone hasn't reported them. We are judged by what people see, it may well be fine, and not a problem, they just see, and presume.
RT were very helpful, as was min vet, photo's can be made to look very different to what is actually there, as we found out, with a clear no case to answer.

Let's be honest, if you have 10 or 15 cows shuffling along that you couldn't walk across the road in case someone saw them, you aren't doing yourself any favours having them on the place at all because these animal rights folks are more than happy to trespass and film them at night anyway. Just leaving a dead beast out at night needs to be done with thought and care and look out the people who refuse to put bedding under their youngstock or beef cattle as they are generating ammunition for the anti-meat brigade constantly. What is the only real answer to the question: 'why don't you put more straw in for your cattle?' We all know the answer and unfortunately that won't sit well with the public.

Perhaps the guy moving the cows likes to have more time to eye up the yummy mummies
